The question of when Baldur's Gate 3 would release on Xbox, if ever, was uncertain until this week, not because of messy console exclusivity politics, but because of console gaming's gradual transformation into a wonky kind of PC gaming.

Baldur’s Gate 3 is not only my favorite RPG game of all time, but it’s hands-down the greatest gameplay experience that I’ve ever had. Larian Studios recently released the Dungeons & Dragons-inspired game out of early access, and it has since been flying through every chart imaginable. Among the vast variety of features found in Baldur’s Gate 3, character appearance changes are nowhere to be found. Larian Studios has just confirmed that they are indeed working on implementing such a system, though.
As further detailed in our Baldur’s Gate 3 review, there are very few things that Larian Studios could have done better with its game. From a mind-boggling amount of dialog choices to unique depth in each Baldur’s Gate 3 class, the DnD-style game has no shortage of content to lose yourself within. If I could add just one thing to it though, it would be the ability to change how my character looks. Sometimes you just need to switch things up, you know?
Twitter user ‘Titan’ had the same request, the one we’ve all had since first playing the DnD game. They wrote, ‘please let me change how I look in the game.’ Michael Douse, the director of publishing at Larian Studios, responded to the player today confirming that we will one day be able to change our character’s appearance in Baldur’s Gate 3. His exact words were a bit cryptic, as the dev simply wrote, “Things are being cooked.”
While Douse’s response doesn’t tell us that Larian Studios is at work on the feature in those precise words, it definitely implies it. Perhaps the mirrors strewn about the Baldur’s Gate 3 map will come with an extra interaction where we can edit our appearance. Or, the ever-fantastic Withers will have yet another dialog choice for us where he’ll style our characters as we please.
It’s also interesting to note that Douse didn’t just say that character appearance changes were coming, but that “things” in general were being worked on. I wonder if this means we’ll get even more than we’re asking for. Maybe even a glamor or transmog system? Knowing Larian Studios, we’ll probably get that and then some eventually.
If you’ve been enjoying your Baldur’s Gate 3 adventures thus far, then you may also enjoy some of our other favorite Dungeons & Dragons games. Alternatively, you can look through our overview of Baldur’s Gate 3 quests for help as you traverse the massive in-game world.

Amazing news for RPG fans on Xbox who’ve been patiently waiting for the release of Baldur’s Gate 3 — Larian Studios boss Swen Vincke has confirmed that the title will be launching on Xbox Series X|S this year.
Baldur's Gate III is arguably the game of the summer, and it isn't even out on consoles yet. Developer Larian Studios has taken a "it'll be out when it's ready" approach to releasing the game on various platforms. After becoming an instant hit on Windows when it came out of early access earlier this month, Baldur's Gate III will land on PlayStation 5 and macOS on September 6th. The exact Xbox release date is still unclear, but Larian has finally confirmed the massive RPG will come to Microsoft's consoles later this year.
Larian Studios will bring Baldur’s Gate 3 to Xbox Series X (and Series S) later this year, the studio’s creative director, Swen Vincke, confirmed Thursday. That’s good news for players on Xbox who have been waiting for news on the Dungeons & Dragons game, as until recently it seemed like they would have to wait until 2024.
There is quite a bit of anticipation and excitement for September. We have two significant releases happening on the same day, and it will hopefully provide a thrilling RPG experience for both Xbox and PlayStation fans. As you might already know, September 6, 2023, is bringing out both Starfield on Xbox Series X/S and PC, while Sony PlayStation 5 fans are getting a copy of Baldur’s Gate 3. However, there was some concern online recently that Baldur’s Gate 3 might be in a bit of trouble.
While the wait for Baldur's Gate 3 has been an interminable one, an advantage to having to endure a month of PC players tearing it apart is that aspects of the game that really need improving are being detected and actioned by developer Larian Studios. One quite baffling missing feature is the ability to change how your character looks (outside of equipment), which you cannot currently do after character creation, not even their hairstyle.
Baldur's Gate III is prepared to receive its first patch and by the looks of it, it seems like a huge one. Larian Studios CEO Swen Vincke confirmed a roadmap on Twitter, promising to fix issues and make relevant tweaks to ability balances, based on user suggestions. First up, is hotfix #4, which would make some emergency fixes to crashes and progressions blocks, in addition to any bugs that hinder the general interface. That will be followed by the massive patch, boasting over 1,000 fixes, followed by patch 2, which will ‘incorporate some requests.' It's unclear what those requests could be, but we already know that the team is planning an update that would let players change their character's appearance mid-game.
It doesn't take a lot for your party in Baldur's Gate 3 to get down and dirty. No, I don't mean it in that way, but I suppose that's true as well. Putting that aside for now - hygiene. The Baldur's Gate 3 gang certainly struggles to maintain it. Thankfully, players have found a solution that doesn't require resting every five minutes.
Baldur’s Gate 3 players will soon have the ability to change the way that their character looks mid-game.
