Baldur's Gate 3's Xbox retail version will have a whopping 4 discs since it 'didn't make sense' to cut any content

Italian Soulslike action RPG Enotria: The Last Song will launch for PlayStation 5 and PC via Steam and Epic Games Store on August 21, developer Jyamma Games announced. A demo is coming soon. The previously announced Xbox Series version is no longer planned and will be reassessed post-launch.

Now that Baldur’s Gate 3 has been a huge success both critically and financially, people are looking forward to what’s next for developer Larian Studios. However, according to studio founder Swen Vincke, the future doesn’t lie with the Baldur’s Gatefranchise or Dungeons & Dragons as a whole.

Along with reporting that the PS5 Pro would have a 28 percent higher system memory than the base model, Insider Gaming’s Tom Henderson also noted that it would have a detachable disc drive and 1 TB space. This reportedly ensures it remains “competitive” with the latest PS5 model, whose Blu-ray disc drive is detachable.

Director of publishing at Larian, Michael Douse, has confirmed that the Xbox Series X/S version of Baldur’s Gate 3 will arrive on a set of 4 discs in its physical release. Taking to social media platform X (formerly Twitter), Douse stated that the studio needed to go with 4 discs because the game was going over the size limit for 3 discs by 500MB.

Baldur's Gate 3 is a big RPG, so big in fact that the physical version has to be spread across four discs on Xbox. 

The hotly anticipated physical edition of Baldur's Gate 3 will be four discs on Xbox. The first wave of the Baldur's Gate 3 Deluxe Edition was announced to start shipping sometime in the first quarter of 2024.

Baldur's Gate 3's physical release, as part of the Deluxe Edition, is ready to ship out on PC. However, it's now been confirmed that the Xbox release will have to be spread out across four discs, likely pushing its shipping date into April.
