The companions and characters of have contributed massively to the success of the game, with everyone having their favorite party members or NPC above all others. This, of course, is a reflection of the fantastic writing that went into each character, which was then brought to life with topnotch voice acting. However, that doesn’t mean that all the companions are treated equally, leaving some out in the cold in favor of others.
When examining and adding up the number of hours and scenes each companion has, it becomes glaringly obvious that Astarion and Shadowheart had a lot more attention given to them by developers Larian Studios than others such as Wyll and Karlach. The result is a fantastic time for those invested in the sneaky vampire rogue or Sharran cleric, but a deep feeling of disappointment for those looking for more Karlach or Wyll content. This is then compounded by personal quests and the level of detail in them, compared to other companions whose questlines end abruptly or are incredibly sparse.
To understand the bias shown toward particular companions or romance options in, it is helpful to know what data and content to analyze. Content quality can be a subjective matter, with each person interacting with it uniquely and therefore feeling differently about it based on their own emotions. So, a good place to start is by studying content length and frequency to begin to piece together an understanding of the discrepancies between the companions.

Why can’t Hollywood make a proper sequel to Ghostbusters? That was the only running through my brain following Frozen Empire last weekend. Baldur’s Gate 3 game director Swen Vincke shocked fans of the Dungeons & Dragons RPG when he revealed that the critically acclaimed game would not get any expansions and that Larian Studios would not go right into making Baldur’s Gate 4. Considering how much of a runaway success Baldur’s Gate 3 has been, it seemed like that would be the most logical continuation of things. 's omnipresent narrator may have found their way into the hearts of the game's community, but Larian Studios briefly flirted with bringing in an exceptionally experienced Dungeon Master to dictate the experience. Needless to say, Baldur’s Gate 3 has been a success beyond anybody’s wildest expectations, racking of GOTY awards and over 10 million in sales, so what’s next for the game’s developer Larian Studios? More content for Baldur’s Gate 3 followed by Baldur’s Gate 4, right? Strike while the iron’s hot!
