Larian Shares Baldur's Gate 3 Physical Release Update, PC Copies Ready

Baldur's Gate 3's physical release, as part of the Deluxe Edition, is ready to ship out on PC. However, it's now been confirmed that the Xbox release will have to be spread out across four discs, likely pushing its shipping date into April.
This comes from Larian's head of publishing Michael Douse, who has just shared an image of a truck full of Baldur's Gate 3 Deluxe Edition copies, ready for those who ordered this release of the game on PC. While he hasn't given us a date for when we can expect these PC copies in our hands, it looks like the situation could move quickly, with the console release coming "slightly after".
Since it looks like the PC copies could be sent out any day now, Douse was asked what this means for the console release. He replied, "Console slightly after. PC version has no disc, so infinitely reduced lead times. Will offer an ETA on that once I know for sure."
That ETA could be a little further away for Xbox fans. Soon after, Douse added that, as he speculated last week, the Xbox release will indeed be spread across four discs. This is because the game was 500 MB over the limit for three discs, and Larian didn't want to cut any content.
Four discs for the Xbox release is a lot, but it's still not beating the first Baldur's Gate game, which launched on PC in five CDs. Throw in a sequel and expansions, and that's a lot of discs to keep track of.
"It’s probable the wave 1 March 25 date will slip to first week of April because of this," says Douse. "PC first. No discs makes life easy. 4 discs, hard!"
Right now, the Larian store says that the first wave of Deluxe Editions on all platforms has sold out. However, since this isn't a limited edition release, you can still place a pre-order, you'll just have to wait until the second wave is sent out in Q2 2024.
This is the only way to nab a physical copy of Baldur's Gate 3. It had a digital-only launch on PC in August 2023, coming to PlayStation 5 a month later, and then to Xbox in December. Ironically, Xbox players could be last to get a Baldur's Gate 3 release once again, since the PS5 Deluxe Edition is still set to be spread across two discs, likely making it easier to ship.
