Baldur's Gate 3 game director Swen Vincke has been basking in the shower of awards and nominations enjoyed by the cRPG. Baldur's Gate 3 won seven prizes at the Golden Joystiq Awards (Best Storytelling, Best Visual Design, Studio Of The Year, Best Game Community, Best Supporting Performer for Astarion's voice actor, PC Game Of The Year, and Ultimate Game Of The Year) and is nominated in eight categories at The Game Awards (Game of the Year, Best Game Direction, Best Narrative, Best Score and Music, Best Performance for the Astarion voice actor, Best Community Support, Best RPG, and Best Multiplayer), with a high chance of winning the most coveted Game of the Year award.
Commenting on the latter news this morning on Twitter (X), the CEO of Larian Studios shared a bit of a tease on the studio's next big game. He said the success earned by Baldur's Gate 3 will ensure this upcoming project continues to push boundaries.
This is a real honour, especially in a year with so many releases. Seeing our little ‘niche RPG’ make such waves is very motivating. I wish I could tell you about our next big game, but this is really encouraging us to ensure it pushes many boundaries. I’m very excited about it.
Interestingly, shortly after the game's launch in early August, Vincke said he would have liked to do a smaller game next. However, today he seems to underline a big project once again, perhaps after seeing all this acclaim for Baldur's Gate 3.
Whatever the case, Larian won't be seen as a small studio anymore. Vincke said he's aware of that and 'frightened, but in a good way'.
It'll certainly be a while before we learn about the studio's next game, and there's also the matter of potential DLCs for BG3. Meanwhile, though, Larian is still working on the Xbox release, which could happen very soon.
