It’s been one of those strange, busy years where any of Polygon’s top 10 games of the year could have made the No. 1 slot. Heck, you could expand that outward to include the top 20. There was a wealth of great games throughout the year, making it impossible to keep up with everything — even here at Polygon, where many of our jobs are to keep up with video games. That’s why we’ve created this list of 10 games you might have missed, all from indie studios. They cover a bunch of different genres, from a goofy multiplayer game to an inventory management roguelike.

 As children around the world eagerly await Santa's arrival on Christmas, the military is closely tracking his every move. Google has taken its biggest step of the year in terms of introducing top-notch AI features with the introduction of Gemini AI. Google launched three Large Language Models as part of the Google Gemini AI which includes 3 things - Gemini Ultra, Gemini Pro and Gemini Nano. While the Ultra version of Google AI feature is the smartest of all, the Pro version is being used in the generative AI tool Bard and the Nano version is being used in the Google Pixel 8 Pro smartphone. These advancements in Gemini AI features are said to bring improved learning, reasoning and understanding to its users.

For months, X (formerly Twitter) users have seen hilarious screenshots of Grok AI patiently, waiting for their turn to come. The generative artificial intelligence (AI) chatbot with humor and sarcasm is a product of xAI, an AI firm owned by Elon Musk. So far, it was in beta testing and only a select few verified X Premium Plus users, the highest tier of the subscription, had access. But now, Musk has announced the wider roll-out of the chatbot in the US to all X Premium Plus users, bringing the funny and “spicy” AI tool to the general public. The Game Awards is back for its 2023 edition, signalling that time of the year when the industry and fans gather together to celebrate the best in video games. Marking the 10th iteration of the Geoff Keighley-hosted show, the annual event is held in high regard by developers worldwide, who will be competing in 31 categories that acknowledge games across genres. It appears that floodgates have opened in the final month of 2023, as tech firms are launching new AI models and tools virtually left, right, and center. Yesterday, Google unveiled its largest AI model called Gemini, and shortly before, Apple also released its machine learning framework MLX. Now, Meta has also launched its AI image generator tool called Imagine with Meta AI, which was so far only available in chats as a standalone platform, allowing anyone with a Meta account to generate stunning AI art. For now, the service is only available in the US, but it is expected to be expanded to other regions soon.
