While the franchise may be known for blitzing through demon-infested halls as fast as possible while also gunning down hordes of monsters, one dedicated speedrunner managed to do it faster than anyone else, shattering a long-standing world record. Given the games' emphasis on speed, it's no wonder why id Software's seminal first-person shooters are so popular amongst the speedrunning community. It's a game that's incredibly accessible to learn but infinitely difficult to master, so much so that many believe some of the older records are impossible to beat but every once in a while, someone proves the naysayers wrong.
Per Kotaku, speedrunner 4shockblast managed the monumental task of completing 's first level, Entryway, in just four seconds, which is a whole second faster than the previous record held by Thomas Pilger at 5.97 seconds.
It's an incredible achievement given that a sub-four-second run of Entryway was believed impossible for 26 years. Yet with thousands of attempts under their belt and some interesting tech, 4shockblast achieved one of the most exciting accomplishments in the speedrunning scene yet.
While the methods used to obtain a four-second run on Entryway are complicated to explain, YouTuber Karl Jobst posted a fantastic video breaking down how 4shockblast pulled it off. While also incorporating the secrets discovered over the last two decades to maximize their speed, the runner also used a technique known as «Thing Running» which allows them to launch off an enemy for a tiny speed boost and cut through the level's first corner. It's an incredibly precise and risky maneuver, especially given that the speedrun is intended to be a «Pacifist Run» meaning no enemies can be killed.
The speedrun was obviously not accomplished on 4shockblast's first try but the amount of practice they required to successfully hit four seconds is genuinely astonishing. To perfect the route, they practiced over 100,000 attempts before eventually landing on a line that ultimately worked in the end. That kind of commitment just illustrates how much love and patience a speedrunner must have for their selected game in order to succeed.
Whether anyone else will be able to beat 4shockblast's time remains unknown as many people believe it impossible to shave any more seconds off the time. However, the community is known for experimenting with the game, and, given the amount of resources available, it's not impossible to imagine someone discovering a new secret that results in a new record. Only time will tell whether Entryway can be beaten in less than four seconds.

As a story about stories, it’s no wonder that Neil Gaiman’s The Sandman would have some characters that other creators would want to pick up and play with. Sandman spinoff comics have starred Dream’s sister Death, the strange denizens of the Dreaming, and even Lucifer himself, leading to the the cult success of an entire LuciferTV series years before a Netflix series adapting The Sandman itself.
tasks players with making some tough decisions as they embark upon a journey across the Commonwealth Wasteland, and now a new mod is looking to judge whether the actions of the Sole Survivor are morally reprehensible or not. Throughout many of Bethesda's older games like and, Karma played a key role in determining how the world reacted to the player. Despite its widespread inclusion, the system is widely hated by fans who have criticized it for being obtuse, poorly implemented, and arbitrary in what it deems to be good or evil.
is known for having plenty of factions vying for control of the irradiated ruins of the Commonwealth and while one of them may feel relatively useless, a new mod makes them significantly more effective at taking control. Waking up as the Sole Survivor of Vault 111 feels especially intimidating when the entire world has gone to ruin but one group of fighters, The Minutemen, is simply looking to make a difference and help their fellow Americans. Unfortunately, their aspirations are slightly out of their reach given that the player needs to accomplish everything for them.
, one of the longest-running open-world survival games on Steam, is finally launching into 1.0 after over a decade of early access development. While the game's community has fluctuated over the years, the zombie-themed game has retained a healthy playerbase since it first debuted in 2013 thanks to a relatively steady stream of updates and patches by developer The Fun Pimps. Despite the fact that the game's lengthy early access period has turned into somewhat of a meme, the studio is moving ahead with an official launch and its pulling out all the stops.

Despite all of that success, and the general expectation from fans that the show will be coming back, it hadn't actually been renewed for a second season. Until now, that is.
Publisher Bohemia Interactive has had a large impact on PC gaming over the past decade or so, with major genre-defining titles like Arma and DayZ to their name. But did you know Bohemia also has another major game it’s currently supporting that’s never been on PC? Initially released back in 2019, the free-to-play Vigor has attracted over 20 million players on Xbox, PlayStation, and Switch, but it's never been released on PC. Why? Honestly, I don’t know! Obviously, not every game has to come to PC, but Vigor is the type of experience that specifically does well on the platform, so it doesn’t make much sense.
