Helldivers 2 is a pretty unique game when it comes to its story, as a seemingly never-ending Galactic War keeps moving whether you're part of it or not. It's a story that constantly shifts and changes depending on the whims of developer Arrowhead and omnipotent games master Joel, meaning that it can be a little difficult to keep up if you need to take a break, or catch up if you're a new player.
Thankfully, there are people out there doing their best to document the entire saga, including a mouthful of a YouTube channel called Super Earth Galactic War Data Archive, which provides daily updates on the movement of troops and the twists that the war takes (thanks GamesRadar). Not only that, but they also provide updates on the Major Orders whenever they're given, and what players should be concentrating their efforts on to help achieve their goal of spreading managed democracy.
For example, the channel's latest video goes into great detail about the new Major Order in Helldivers 2 which is pushing soldiers to liberate the planet of Troost. Not only that, but they also talk about the fights against the Terminids and Automatons, detailing the mass movements of players as they shift from area to area to tackle incoming threats. It's all incredibly well put together, and keeps you up to speed on the events of each day.
The Super Earth Galactic War Data Archive has even managed to become more of a collaborative effort in recent days, as other players have been sending in gameplay footage of them fighting in the areas that each video focuses on, giving the whole thing more of an official feel and more like a wartime log of real events. There are even sections dedicated to the pure stats and numbers if that's something that strikes your fancy.
While it's fun to keep up with the Galactic War with each video, this is also a pretty neat piece of preservation that should be fun to look back on when Helldivers 2 is eventually left behind. With the game being online only, and no way to revisit certain events that transpired, it will serve as a cool way to reexperience the game's story and dramatic twists, but only if the Super Earth Galactic War Data Archive is committed to documenting the entire war. Let's keep our fingers crossed that it is.
