A Genshin Impact event in South Korea had to be evacuated after an anonymous Twitter user posted a picture of a supposed homemade explosive device, implying it had been planted inside Seoul's Olympic Park arena. No one was injured.
Police and firefighters evacuated around 200 people from the Genshin Impact Summer Festival 2023 on 22nd July. The Tweets were recorded on Reddit, and the associated Twitter account has since been suspended. The unhinged poster implied that the device would explode «when the time arrives», encouraging their followers to «look forward to it». The account had made anti-Chinese and anti-communist statements previously, with this being seen as a possible motive for the threats. Genshin Impact is developed by miHoYo, a Chinese company headquartered in Shanghai.
English-language Korean outlet Yonhap News Agency reports that the event was postponed until officials were able to confirm there was no bomb at the site. Police are currently tracking the individual responsible. A woman was sentenced to two and a half years in prison for making a similarly false bomb threat just last month in Cheongju.
Khayl Adam is the second best video game journalist Australia has ever produced, and his ambitions of world domination have (thus far) been curbed by the twin siren songs of strategy games and CRPGs. He has always felt an affinity for the noble dachshund, the best kind of dog.
Glad nobody got hurt, remember to be safe everyone!
Well that’s insane. The geopolitical situation in Korea being… rough, for want of a better word, must make dealings with Chinese companies somewhat controversial.
«anti-Chinese statement» Just call it sinophobic. If you think all Chinese are bad, because it's government is, you're a racist.
Also the terrorist tweet was homophobic as well (of course it was)...
@BlueWeezer Real bomb treats were 20 years ago. Now treat is just «tool» to dismiss group or event.
I should let announcers of treat pay whole canceled events + compensations for sold tickets no matter how old, poor or stupid they are and than send then to jail for 20 years. Two or three ruined lifes and this idiocy stops...
Not the waifus!!!
Genshin Impact has always drawn comparisons with The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, and now a developer has finally acknowledged said comparisons.
The version 4.0 update for Genshin Impact, dubbed “As Light Rain Falls Without Reason,” will launch on August 16, developer miHoYo announced.
For a number of years now, Sony has brought PlayStation to ChinaJoy, one of the largest gaming exhibitions in Asia. It's set to take part yet again in 2023, with the event scheduled between 28th and 31st July at Shanghai's New International Expo Center. So, what's Sony bringing to the showfloor?
In yet more Diablo 4 live service drama, developer Blizzard has been accused of «malicious design» by fans for the apparent shocking ease with which the game parts players from their hard-earned money, whether they intended it or not.
Plans for a PS4 iteration of long-in-development cosmic horror FPS Quantum Error have been cancelled, with developer TeamKill citing qualitative issues in a statement that approaches humblebrag. In 2020, we wondered if this spooky shooter might be a PS5 launch title, and in the years since, it's been moulded into a tense-looking experience, and a technically-demanding one, at that. To soften the blow, we got a fresh look at gameplay, which you can check out below. TeamKill explains:
Imagine, if you will, Half-Life 3 is announced. Better, it will be developed by a best-in-class AAA studio. Not the original creators, mind, but the next best thing, and more appropriate, given the modern context and how much time has passed.
FromSoftware's eagerly-anticipated mech action game Armored Core VI: Fires of Rubicon is out this time next month, but prospective pilots won't need to wait that long to get their next gameplay briefing. The cagey developer is teasing some fresh gameplay, and it's expected in the hours to come.
Blasphemous 2 continues the series' trademark blend of tough-as-nails 2D gameplay and unsettling Catholicism-inspired enemy design. Preorders are now live, with the game launching on PS5 next month, on 24th August, and we got a suitably gory gameplay snippet to tide us over in the meantime.
We've been luxuriating in all the new Marvel's Spider-Man 2 details from today's San Diego Comic-Con panel, which included a stunning new story trailer and a limited-edition Spider-Man 2 PS5 bundle, the aesthetics of which has already polarised opinion within Push Square's own editorial staff.
Ever wondered what abstract concepts like rebellion or loyalty smell like? We neither, but the list of products Atlus hasn't yet managed to shoehorn the cast of Persona 5 into grows shorter every day. Case in point, this collaboration between the publisher and gaming candle maker Wick & Skull offering officially licenced Phantom Thieves candles that look like a real treat for the nasal passages.
If you were worried that Star Wars Outlaws was going to end up being an infinite Ubisoft timesink ala Assassin's Creed: Odyssey, the developers at Massive Entertainment want to put you at ease, noting that the experience will be «very manageable».
Skate (or Skate 4, as it's colloquially known) is currently in development, with EA inviting the community in over the past year to kick its tiny, skate-board-sized wheels on PC. This has all been going swimmingly, apparently, but EA has thrown us console warriors a lifeline; we'll get the chance to have our say on PlayStation platforms, although the timeline on that one is anybody's guess.
