Official Xbox news website Xbox Wire has deleted a post that claimed the open beta for Final Fantasy 14 had gone live on Xbox.
The open beta, which is due to be released in the coming weeks, will see the popular MMO come to Xbox consoles for the first time.
Xbox Wire, Xbox’s in-house editorial brand, posted to X that it “incorrectly posted news this morning regarding the Final Fantasy XIV Online Open Beta”, adding that it would “follow up with the correct date when available”.
Xbox and Bethesda are set to stream a Developer Direct presentation on Thursday – it’s possible that this may be when the date is officially confirmed.
It was officially announced back in June 2023 that Final Fantasy 14 is coming to Series X and S, when Xbox boss Phil Spencer made a surprise appearance at the Final Fantasy 14 Fan Festival in Las Vegas.
According to Xbox, the Series X version of the game will support 4K graphics, while both the Series X and Series S versions will benefit from fast loading times.
The Expanded Free Trial, which is available on PC and PlayStation consoles, will also be applicable on Xbox too.
This means players will be able to play through the entirety of the base game A Realm Reborn, as well as its first two expansions Heavensward and Stormblood, up to level 70 with no restrictions on playtime.
Once players reach level 70, they’ll then have to pay a monthly fee to continue playing the game.

There are a lot of eternal arguments in video games that will almost certainly never be settled. PlayStation or Xbox, graphics over gameplay, or for PC players in particular, keyboard and mouse or controller. Hori might have the solution for that last one. Its Tactical Assault Commander combines keyboard and mouse with a controller, and now you can pre-order a model that has been specifically designed with Final Fantasy 14 players in mind.
For every issue of Game Informer magazine, we print a handful of Game Informer Gold editions. These versions sometimes feature alternate art, have a gold embossed logo on the front, are individually numbered and feature higher quality paper. They're very nice, and we reserve them for special occasions like charity auctions or, as is the case here, giveaways.

We have a new rumor that confirms something that we speculated on just last week.
For the record, we didn’t plan two stories about items you can get for Final Fantasy VII Rebirth to come in back-to-back days. Life decided to have a little fun with us, and we don’t mind. Yesterday, we discussed how Square Enix Reward Program members could get a special glitter globe featuring the Gold Saucer from the upcoming RPG. It was cute and adorable, and we’re sure some of you have already subscribed to the program so you can get it or are cashing in points to ensure you get it. But, if you’re looking for something a bit more “substantial,” then perhaps Amazon is where you go to get the game.
