The WoW Classic Cataclysm beta is now live, and players can still sign up to play this closed beta ahead of the full launch later this year.
Blizzard announced the news through the official Blizzard blog yesterday. Those interested can sign up for this closed beta through here. Signups for the beta kicked off back in December of last year. The beta for the latest classic server option for World of Warcraft was initially expected to launch between The Season of Discovery and WoW Classic's Self-Found hardcore mode. Last month, however, it was revealed that the beta was delayed. Luckily for fans, this has proven to be only a minor delay.

World of Warcraft Classic Cataclysm is expected to launch on or before August 31, 2024. Players will require an active World of Warcraft Subscription or Game Time.
From the fires of destruction, a new Azeroth arises. Following Deathwing the Destroyer's cataclysmic entrance, which left a festering wound across Azeroth, heroes are called once again to experience a dramatically reforged Azeroth and defend it from utter devastation.
Players can tackle this milestone expansion again with new quality-of-life changes, including a faster content cadence, improved leveling experience, expanded Collections UI, and more!
Initially released in 2010, Cataclysm was World of Warcraft's third official expansion. The expansion raised the player level cap from level 80 to 85 and featured a greatly overhauled landscape. More than 3.3 million copies of the expansion were sold within 24 hours after launch. “We had to bring Azeroth to the brink of destruction in Cataclysm, but the result was our best expansion yet,” said Mike Morhaime, then CEO and co-founder of Blizzard Entertainment in 2010. “We want to thank all of our new, existing, and returning players throughout the world for their incredible enthusiasm and support, and we look forward to hearing what they think about all the new content.”

Super Mario Maker players have finally done it - they've beaten every single legitimate level uploaded to the original game before the servers shut down. The catch is that they already achieved victory last week, and they're only now able to celebrate the accomplishment after the creator of the last level standing came forward to reveal that it was a fake.
With this week's Cataclysm Beta build, Blizzard has added more optional assets to the client in the shape of upscale resolution textures for the game. These are not currently usable by players in the beta but are dataminable. While normal WoW textures are 64x64 pixels, these new uprezzed textures are 256x256 pixels, or 16 times more detailed. Below are a couple of examples. These textures represent an extra 30 gigabytes of storage space compared to the normal client. However, we datamined some strings in the first build that indicate that these will be optional, so most players likely won't need to download them if they aren't looking to use them. Remember that Blizzard still hasn't announced anything definitive about upscaled graphics, but there were talks at BlizzCon about them, so we may see them in Cataclysm. Sony's own upscaling tech for the rumored PlayStation 5 Pro - PS5 Pro PSSR (PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution) - is said to offer vastly improved image quality for current PS5 titles.

Aspyr has acknowledged the issues with Star Wars Battlefront Classic Collection's launch, pinning them on "critical errors" with its network infrastructure. While it works on a fix, it thanks players for their overwhelming support and feedback - even while the game falls to "Overwhelmingly Negative" reviews on Steam.
Star Wars fans will be happy to know that Star Wars Battlefront Classic Collection is now avaliable everywhere. The 2004 game is now avaliable to play on PC, Nintendo Switch, Xbox, and Playstation. However, this game has sadly been receiving some not-so-good reviews as of late since its release.
