We're a bit late with this one, but we still want to know your thoughts on one of this month's best games. We are, of course, talking about Unicorn Overlord — the strategy RPG from Vanillaware. The title was always going to be somewhat niche in terms of appeal, but those who have played it will know how finely crafted an experience it is.
In our own Unicorn Overlord PS5 review, we wrote: «It's hard to say whether Unicorn Overlord is objectively Vanillaware's best game, but for us, it's right up there, competing for the crown — and that's incredibly high praise.» We awarded the immaculate release an 'excellent' 9/10, concluding: «For those who are looking to get lost in tactical thought, it's essential — and for everyone else, it still stands as an engrossing fantasy adventure. Vanillaware's done it again.»

Robert (or Rob if you're lazy) has been a fan of PlayStation since the 90s, when Tekken 2 introduced him to the incredible world of video games. He still takes his fighting games seriously, but RPGs are his true passion. The Witcher, Dragon Quest, Mass Effect, Final Fantasy, he's played 'em all — a little too much, some might say.
So far — and I have nowhere near completed it — I'd give it a solid 8/10. Fantastic, gorgeous game ❤️ definitely gives me pangs of nostalgia for GBA Fire Emblem
A 'recommend' for any tactical RPG fan.
I haven't played it yet, but it's Vanillaware so it gets at least an 8 from me by default.
I haven’t finished it yet but for now it’s an easy 9/10 in my opinion. The gameplay is super fun, there’s real tactical depth, the music is great, the art design is second to none. What really puts a smile on my face though is the world. Everyone is so darn polite and respectful, it’s impossible for me not to enjoy leading the liberation as an absolute do gooder. It’s oddly refreshing. Fantastic game.
I've been playing it on Switch and been loving it. I haven't noticed any areas of underperformance so far either.
I have it...but I haven't started it yet. Too many RPGs!.. not that I'm complaining.
I loved it. Lost 3 days to it with ease. Plus the story was fun. And no it’s not brainwashing like so many reviewers said. As an Ogre Battle fan I couldn’t be happier.
Honestly?
Vanillaware's weakest game so far.
Had been hoping for some form of turn-based combat system(or hell, even a return to the beat 'em up style combat from Dragon's Crown/Odin Sphere would have been greatly appreciated) and instead I get a passive RTS-style army simulator.
@Ryu_Niiyama Brainwashing? Wait,
