Planet Zoo: Console Edition Review (PS5) | Push Square

TopSpin 2K25 is about to be served up on PS5, and after playing the game at a hands-on preview, it’s quietly become one of our most anticipated releases of the year. From top tennis talent to this long-dormant franchise getting the 2K treatment, there’s plenty of reason for us to be excited — but what about those behind every swing, serve and set? We managed to speak with Game Director Remi Ercolani to learn about tech advances, post-launch support, and why now is the perfect time for the series to return.

If the new Alone in the Dark PS5 reboot has given you a classic survival horror itch, then Sony's subscription service PS Plus Premium is looking to scratch it. Available from Tuesday, 16th April 2024, the old PS1 terror Alone in the Dark: The New Nightmare will be available to members on the top tier, complete with all the bells and whistles that come with the re-releases Sony accepts on the service. It's joined by MediEvil and Star Wars: Rebel Assault II: The Hidden Empire on the same day.

Unlike a lot of recently released blockbusters, Stellar Blade won't be taking up a massive chunk of your PS5's storage space. As per the ever-reliable PlayStation Game Size, the upcoming action title weighs in at a very reasonable 30.4GB, which is obviously a far cry from the 80GB and above downloads that players have gotten used to dealing with over the course of the generation.

Capes is a turn-based superhero tactics game set in a world where the villains have already won. We've had our eye on this one for a little while now, as it looks like it could be quite special. Here's hoping it won't be received as tragically as Firaxis' excellent Marvel's Midnight Suns when it hits on 29th May on PS5 and PS4.

If you're looking for a quick and gorgeous game, one you can polish off in a couple of relaxed afternoons, Planet of Lana fits the bill. Previously an Xbox console exclusive, it's come to PlayStation now, and will speak to anyone who enjoyed the likes of Limbo or Inside.

Zoos have an important role to play in the modern world. While their roots might be in the collecting of exotic creatures to show off a ruler or nation’s power and influence, the modern zoo has turned toward education and science, to preservation and even trying to reverse the thoughtless and destructive repercussions of hundreds of years of human expansion. When it comes to Planet Zoo the foundations are still those serious ecological issues, but Frontier has crafted a fun and enjoyable park management experience within them. Following the game’s launch on PC in 2019, the animal parks are now finally opening to console owners as well.

Publisher Atari has been bringing back all kinds of old school series lost to the annals of time, and its latest is soon to leave its stint in early access with a full launch. That game is NeoSprint, a modern take on the company's top-down, multiplayer racing series, coming this summer to PS5 and PS4.

Stellar Blade developer Shift Up has shared what the studio has planned in terms of post-launch support for its soon-to-be-released PS5 exclusive. In a recent interview with bbs.ruliweb.com, it revealed the title will receive free updates that bundle in new costumes for protagonist Eve to wear alongside a New Game+ option. It's also stated «DLC has not been determined» separately to the free content drops, which could suggest there'll be a larger Stellar Blade expansion in the future also.

Sonic's influence on the gaming world has been well documented over the years, resulting in many attempts to recreate the 1991 classic's momentum-focused gameplay. In 2014, developer GalaxyTrail released Freedom Planet, an excellent 2D platformer that managed to invoke a similar exhilarating feeling with its emphasis on speedy platforming challenges. With its sequel, Freedom Planet 2, the team has pulled it off yet again, this time with additional gameplay tweaks.

Foamstars! Remember that? Well, it's still going, and Square Enix is gearing up for the game's third seasonal update. Titled Mysterious Swing, the new season debuts on 12th April, and you can see some of the new additions in the above trailer.

Square Enix has confirmed a glitch in Final Fantasy VII Rebirth blocking players from unlocking the Platinum Trophy will be addressed in the RPG's next update. Currently, a side quest called Can't Stop Won't Stop isn't registering high scores in the G-Bike arcade minigame, which is required to unlock the Platinum Trophy and progress other missions near to the end of the game. The publisher hasn't said when the PS5 patch will arrive, but presumably, it'll be available soon.
