UK Sales Charts: Assassin's Creed Mirage Sneaks Up on FC 24, But Doesn't Make the Kill | Push Square

Gfk has released its UK physical charts for the week ending October 28th (via Games Industry), and as noted earlier, Super Mario Bros. Wonder is in first, while Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is in second. EA Sports FC 24 remained in third place despite stiff competition, and Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 1 debuted fourth.

Along with Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, Super Mario Bros. Wonder debuted strong in the UK last week. According to the latest Gfk charts (per Games Industry), it’s the biggest 2D Mario launch in the region’s history and only “narrowly” behind Super Mario Odyssey and Super Mario 3D All-Stars.

Genshin Impact sent ripples through the gaming industry in 2020, and Honkai: Star Rail has already successfully repeated the same feat. Currently the biggest gacha game on the planet per Sensor Tower revenue rankings, this turn-based RPG takes many of the same systems from HoYoverse’s fantasy open world and bends them into a more bite-sized package. The result is a game that’s more manageable to make progress in, but still utterly life-consuming if you want it to be.

There’s just a week until Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 releases on PS5, and that means it’s time to start pre-loading the anticipated exclusive ahead of its launch. Insomniac Games has confirmed on Twitter that those who’ve pre-ordered the title digitally can begin pulling its data now, meaning that it’ll be ready to play on 20th October, which is the title’s release day. The file size weighs in at around 86GB.

Sony is using the opportunity of the PS5’s smaller, slimmer relaunch to stealthily bump the price of the Digital Edition in the United States. While we already know you’ll need to pay extra for a standalone vertical stand, the organisation has also made the decision to hike the overall cost of the non-Blu-ray unit by $50. This means, moving forwards, the disc-less device will increase from an MSRP of $399.99 to $449.99.

Persona 5 Tactica takes the mainline Persona 5 combat and turns it on its head, eschewing the stylish yet traditional JRPG format for crunchier SRPG fare. Thankfully, the adorable Sergeant Morgana has put together a series of instructional videos so that you can get up to speed as quickly as possible once Tactica launches on PS5 and PS4 next month, on 17th November. The new PS5, colloquially known as the PS5 Slim, will replace the original model next month – and its main selling point is its detachable disc drive. For Sony, this design tweak will streamline its manufacturing process – but for consumers, it’ll also provide flexibility. The remodelled machine will also come in 30 per cent smaller than its predecessor, which is a significant footprint reduction.

Hands up: who remembers Hogs of War? Published by Infogrames late in the PS1's life, this was a 3D, military-themed, turn-based strategy game, only instead of human soldiers, it was pigs at war with each other. Playing a little bit like a 3D Worms (before Worms 3D existed), it secured cult hit status thanks to its silly British humour and fun multiplayer battles. If you're among those who fondly remember this oddball title, you're in luck — it's coming back.

Update: Well, there we go. Microsoft has wasted no time, and has officially concluded the transaction to acquire Activision Blizzard King. The announcement comes via Xbox Wire, where Phil Spencer writes about this historic merger. Bobby Kotick, CEO of Activision Blizzard King, will remain in place for at least the rest of 2023.

There’s a good chance if you were trying to play your PS5 last night, you may have been hit by some server issues. There was a widespread global outage during the middle of the night in the UK, which affected the peak evening window in the United States. All of the issues were resolved within a couple of hours or so, but obviously you wouldn’t have been able to play online-only titles, like the newly released Honkai: Star Rail.
