Sony is using the opportunity of the PS5’s smaller, slimmer relaunch to stealthily bump the price of the Digital Edition in the United States. While we already know you’ll need to pay extra for a standalone vertical stand, the organisation has also made the decision to hike the overall cost of the non-Blu-ray unit by $50. This means, moving forwards, the disc-less device will increase from an MSRP of $399.99 to $449.99.
The price of the Blu-ray model has not changed, and costs just $499.99. As the standalone disc drive will retail for $79.99, you’ll actually save $20 stumping up for the bundle as opposed to buying the Digital Edition and Blu-ray add-on separately. The pricing is a bit confusing – especially when you start factoring in other currencies – but the bottom line is that it’ll become more expensive to buy the Digital Edition starting in November in the United States.
Has this put you off purchasing the new model at all? How do you feel about the stealth price increase? Let us know in the comments section below.
A true PlayStation veteran, Sammy's covered the world of PS gaming for years, with an enormous Trophy count to prove it. He also likes tennis games way more than you.
You actually save $30 dollars on the bundle in the US. Meanwhile in the UK, you only save £10, as the separate disk drive is an absurd £99.99. The pricing between regions makes no sense.
its even more when you factor in the price of the now not included vertical stand $29.99
Big increase in Japan, too.

«The Disc Drive will be sold separately for $79.99 plus a console price hike»
Making the digital PS5 total investment far more expensive than any other console in existence.
Not to mention an additional $30.00 for the stand if you ever want the flexibility of seeing that console vertically.
Looking at $40 extra in dollaryoos my neck of the woods,($160 Blu-ray add-on). It's a nice option to have rather than be «locked in»,as you are on the current digital models whether ps5 or Xbox.
But if you're on the fence or have an extensive ps4 physical library common sense says you get the model bundled with the drive from the get go.
Happy enough with my current model purchase during the recent Days of Play promotion,& daresay there'll be more as they'll want momentum to continue beyond this year.
Sticking to my Digital PS5. Already got the black plates for it and see no reason to upgrade unless we get the Pro. However Sony had to increase the price otherwise they would have had to way overcharge for the disk add on if the digital console alone was just $400. They kind of had to do it this way. This also help’s them pay less in shipping them with it being reduced in weight. So it’s a win for them financially.
