Ubisoft is «disappointed» with the sales of Assassin's Creed Nexus VR. That's according to the company's top executive, who also revealed that Ubisoft won't be doubling down on its virtual reality bet for the time being, given the current state of VR gaming.

Sony has reportedly temporarily halted all production of the PlayStation VR2. The company's purported decision to hit pause on PS VR2 manufacturing is said to be a result of the headset's lackluster sales, which caused an inventory buildup.

PlayStation VR2 is set to get support for VR games on PC this year, Sony has announced. The company confirmed Wednesday that it was testing the ability for PS VR2 to play PC VR games in addition to the already supported titles available via PS5. The PS VR2 launched in international markets in February 2023, and it made its India debut in December. The virtual reality headset is currently only compatible with the PS5 and does not support PS VR content from the previous generation.

Sony Interactive Entertainment is currently testing PC support for its PlayStation VR2 headset with plans to launch in 2024, the company announced.

With the recent publication of one of its patents, there is some indication that Sony is looking to add a new AI-powered product to its gaming-focused product line. Although AI has quickly grown in ubiquity across the general computing market, tech companies like Sony are only scratching the surface when it comes to leveraging the technology in their gaming-focused hardware.

The developer of popular sandbox VR game Rec Room has revealed that it currently «can't justify» a port of the game to PlayStation VR2. Horizon would make its debut in VR with Horizon Call of the Mountain launching in February of last year, while Gran Turismo 7 would also receive VR functionality in a free update. Now, however, one developer doesn't appear to be convinced by the VR platform.

Taking to the PlayStation Blog, Sony has revealed lists of the most downloaded games throughout 2023. The list has been split into several distinct categories across regions, platforms, and even a distinct list for PSVR and PSVR2.

VR studio First Contact Entertainment has shut down. The company, which is behind PSVR and PSVR2 games Firewall Zero Hour and Firewall Ultra, said the «lack of support for VR within the industry» was a factor in its decision.

PlayStation VR2, Sony's current-gen virtual reality headset, is finally available in India. Capcom has announced that the free VR Mode for Resident Evil 4 Remake, exclusive to PlayStation VR2, will be available on December 8th. There will also be a free demo that PS5 players can download, which includes the Shooting Range and a “360-degree look” of the opening.

The PlayStation VR2 is only a few months old yet, but so far in its life, it’s in desperate need of proper killer apps. First Contact Entertainment’s first person shooter Firewall Ultra has looked like a game that could potentially fit that description since it was revealed last year (not least because its predecessor is still one of the best games in the original PS VR’s library), and now, we know exactly when it will be coming out.
