Zagreus, the lovable and sarcastic protagonist of the first ,has been replaced by his little sister, Melinoë, and the game no longer revolves around escaping Hades over and over again. Instead, it is about breaking into the Underworld, killing the Chronos, Titan of Time, so that Hades can be reclaimed from its usurper, and a recent technical test provided plenty of insight into the new protagonist.

Hades 2 developer Supergiant Games has announced that the technical test is almost over, and fans will soon be able to play the game through Early Access. Supermassive Games recently held a «technical test» earlier this month, which gave eager fans a chance to play Hades 2 early. This test period was different from Early Access, as the players were randomly selected from a pool who signed up for the chance, as opposed to being available to everyone.

The history of the roguelike genre isn't just that it is popular — it's ever-changing, from second to second, depending on who gets asked what defines it. While there are extremely strict definitions available for absolute purists, the general sense of a roguelike is that it features a decent number of qualities attributed to the original. Beyond those attributes, they're often defined by their innovations rather than their adherence to their genre, with plenty of roguelikes making a push for Game of the Year candidacy in their release years.

Hades 2 developer Supergiant Games has recently announced that the upcoming game will have a “technical test” period in which gamers can apply to play early. Not only will this short test period help the developers iron out bugs, but it may also allow some lucky players to play Hades 2 before it hits Early Access.

Following a successful run in early access starting in 2018, Hades went on to become the roguelike to end all roguelikes upon its official release in 2020. Supergiant Games had a smash hit on their hands, and fans weren’t surprised when a sequel was announced to be in the works in 2022. Though the reveal of Hades 2 was far from a shock, many players were stunned to discover that knowledge of the legendary first title won’t be necessary to enjoy it.

Hades, the acclaimed roguelike from Supergiant Games, is coming to iOS as part of Netflix Games on March 19. The streaming giant confirmed the release date on Apple's mobile platform Tuesday, with pre-registrations open for the action title. Hades was first released on the Nintendo Switch, PC and Mac in 2020 and launched on PlayStation and Xbox platforms a year later. All Netflix subscribers will be able to access the game for free on iOS devices.

After months of silence about development on the long-awaited sequel, Supergiant Games has announced that will be launching in Early Access in Q2 2024. Fans of the fast-paced roguelike franchise had been waiting nearly a year for more news about its latest entry following the reveal of Hades 2 with a stylish, animated trailer during The Game Awards 2022 last December.

Supergiant Games released a development update for Hades 2 today, shedding some light on the roguelike action RPG’s Early Access release plans. The sequel to Hades will launch in Early Access in Q2 of 2024 on both Steam and the Epic Games Store. The team went on to clarify that the exact date, pricing, and system requirements will be revealed later. Prior to the Early Access release, there will also be a limited technical test for a handful of players. This test will serve as a way to solve technical and compatibility issues before Early Access.

Hades II will be released in Early Access next spring.

It’s been a long nine months since Supergiant Games announced Hades 2, the sequel to Polygon’s 2020 Game of the Year Hades. On Thursday, the developer finally broke its silence and offered an update on the game: Hades 2 will release in Early Access on Steam and the Epic Games Store in Q2 of 2024, somewhere between April and June of next year.

Gaming merch company iam8Bit has reissued vinyl LPs for the amazing soundtracks to Hades and Bastion. The double LP soundtrack to Bastion is now available for $42.99, while the larger, four-LP set for Hades is $89.99. In an act that seemingly defies the will of the gamer gods themselves, a speedrunner has pulled off one of the most technically difficult and statistically unlikely runs in Hades. The run — which was a 64 Heat run on an unmodded and unseeded version of the game — was previously declared by some in the community to be “impossible,” because the odds of rolling the correct combination of powers are so low and the technical ability required is so high. Or at least, it seemed so.

On July 25 this year, a YouTuber named Haelian uploaded a video called «Why No One Has Beaten the Max Heat in Hades or Probably Ever Will»: a breakdown of the hardest possible run-through of Supergiant's incredible 2020 roguelike action-RPG and why it is, effectively, unbeatable. 

Hades player Angel1C (also known as Jade on YouTube) has managed to beat the game on Heat level 64, which was previously thought to be nearly impossible.

Hades expert Jade ‘AngeL1C’ has just made history by becoming the first Hades player to beat the game on its hardest setting with no mods or prior seeding – a challenge that was previously considered to be basically impossible. The incredible roguelike game took over when it was released in September 2020 following two years in early access, and ever since then its top players have been striving to defeat its ultimate challenge.

Just days after it was proclaimed "impossible," a Hades player has beaten the game on the highest difficulty without any mods or exploits.

No one has bested beloved roguelike Hades at its highest difficulty level, and an expert thinks it could take as long as 85 hours to pull off even a single viable attempt.
