Basically the only sort of strategy games I like are city builders, so I was interested in the playtest for El Dorado: The Golden City Builder, which casts you as the leader of an ancient Mayan-ish city. The playtest is only the prologue, but the eventual goal is to take over the Yucatán peninsula, and if nothing else it's refreshing to see a city-builder that doesn't feel overwhelmingly European. It also has a complicated system of religion. Whereas in a similarly polytheistic game like Zeus, the gods would turn up to stomp on buildings and/or bless them, at fairly large intervals, in El Dorado I was getting a home immolated every few days. Building shrines that have an area of effect, and that require resources to run and protect your town, is its own supply chain in El Dorado. This is a very interesting idea that I liked.

Top Racer Collection’s release has been delayed to March 7th, QUByte has announced today, with more time needed to polish the experience. Top Racer Collection brings together the classic trilogy of Top Racer, Top Racer 2, and Top Racer 3000. In addition to the original trilogy, a new game called Top Racer Crossroads will be part of the collection adding four new cars.
In a statement on Steam, QUByte said:
“It is with appreciation and responsibility that we share an important update on the long-awaited release of Top Racer Collection, scheduled for January 11, 2024. After careful consideration, we have decided to postpone the release in order to enhance the experience we want to deliver to all players. We believe this decision will result in a more polished, higher quality game that meets the expectations of our incredible community. We are dedicating additional time to perfecting the details and ensuring that Top Racer Collection fully meets the standards we set out to achieve.
We understand that the news may cause frustration, so we want to express our sincere apologies to all the fans and supporters who are eager to dive into this exciting return to a beloved console classic. In recognition of the invaluable ongoing support and patience of our community, we also want to offer something special by way of thanks.
On January 11, we will be making an exclusive demo of the game available for free on Steam. With this, we want to give everyone a sneak preview of what’s to come. We deeply appreciate your understanding. No one is more eager than we are to share Top Racer Collection in its best and most exciting form. The demo will include three tracks and multiplayer. The collection will include online and local multiplayer, a ranking mode, and a time attack mode. Top Racer Collection will be released for PC, Switch, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PS4, and PS5.

Developer commentary piques interest, and its implementation in the campaign is middling, but the Lost Levels, which also include it, are a revelation.
