As with many RPG stories, 's story is enhanced by the characters players can interact with, and the relationships that can be built. There are several characters that V can romance throughout the game, and developing these relationships can lead to different endings and end-credits dialogue, making the overall experience more satisfying or gut-wrenching as players grow to care about these supporting characters.
A male V can romance Panam Palmer, a Nomad from the Aldecado family, and Johnny Silverhand's former bandmate, Kerry Eurodyne. A female V, the hacker Judy Alvarez, and former NCPD detective River Ward are romanceable. V can also hook up with Meredith Stout, Joytoys, or let Johnny Silverhand have a long overdue date with Rogue.
When originally launched, the romanceable characters could only be interacted with in their own storylines, and via the occasional messages on V's Holocom. After players did the last mission with their love interest, that was the last time they could see them in person until the game's finale, depending on whether they decided to involve their love interest in their final plans.
Since then, 's 1.5 update introduced "" with new features such as additional Holocom conversations and messages with partners, which could lead to characters sending nudes to V, and player interactions outside the main story. For example, whenever V would sleep in their bed in one of their apartments, whoever they were in a relationship would occasionally wake up beside them.
The game's 2.1 update took this even further with the introduction of "", with a new level called ", which took inspiration from a popular mod. These hangouts were unlocked after completing the final mission in a particular love interest's questline and would see V inviting their partner to any of their apartments. Here, V can stroke their hair, caress their cheeks, and kiss them, or they can dance to the song the mission is named after,. There is also the option for V to shower with, and sleep next to their love interest.
The song can be heard on in the game and is also heavily featured in Netflix's anime series,
Upon completing, players will receive a prompt to message V's partner and invite them to hang out again. They will respond that they're busy and will message back after two in-game days to initiate another

A Easter egg is a perfect nod to one of Keanu Reeves' best characters. One of the key narrative hooks of CD Projekt Red's RPG is the existence of Johnny Silverhand, a digital reconstruction of the consciousness of an iconic punk rocker who manages to make a home inside the head of protagonist V.
