Closely following on from yesterday’s cast reveal we now have the full trailer for the Borderlands movie.
The trailer shows that the film will have lost of explosive action found in the games, and also the rather basic humour, also found in the games. There are jokes about both pee and poop in the trailer so that should indicate how sophisticated the film we be. On the plus side Cate Blanchett is always good value and she seems to be having a good time here.
The film has been in development for a good few years and was announced way a back in 2015. Eli Roth was in the director’s chair for the Borderlands movie, his filmography includes the likes of Cabin Fever, the Hostel films, The Green Inferno, Death Wish, and The House with a Clock in its Walls.
The film was completed some time ago but Tim Mller was brought on board to reshoot some scenes.
“It was an interesting experience to come in and do reshoots on a movie that’s not yours”, he told Collider. “It’s a freeing experience where you feel like, “I’m just here to help wherever I can.” But my main reason, other than, you know, I have a huge affection for the video game industry, I want to see every video game adaption succeed is, I’ll be honest, I wanted to work with Cate Blanchett, and I wanted to work with Kevin and Jamie Lee Curtis. And Ariana Greenblatt, the young lady who plays Tiny Tina, is amazing, which everybody knows from the Barbie movie. So it was a great experience all around. I was feeling a little rusty, so I was happy to get back in the saddle. The movie gets up and moves. It’s a good ride.”
The cast will include Jamie Lee Curtis as Tannis, Cate Blanchett as Lilith, Ariana Greenblatt as Tiny Tina, Jack Black as Claptrap, Kevin Hart as Roland, Edgar Ramirez as Deukalian Atlas, the Founder and CEO of the Atlas Corporation, and Florian Munteanu as Krieg. Haley Bennett was also added to cast but she will not be playing an established character.

Despite tumult at developer Gearbox, the studio wants fans to know that isn't in any trouble. Since being acquired by parent company Embracer in 2021, many fans of the long-running shooter role-playing game have expressed concern regarding the state of the project. Now, after reports suggest that Gearbox will soon be sold to a new parent company, employees make it clear that the work on the franchise is progressing steadily.
Did you pop in Final Fantasy XV only to hitch your Regalia permanently to Galdin Quay? Did you halt progress in Sea of Stars in an effort to filet every single species known to man? If you’re a total fishing freak, there’s an open-world action-RPG on the way for you called Sea Fantasy.
Composer Nobuo Uematsu is an integral part of Final Fantasy's identity. Even if you don't know his name, you've certainly heard his work, as he was the sole composer on the series for over a decade. Even after other composers were brought on to provide scores for new instalments, Uematsu kept working on the series and even composed the main theme for Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth.
As with all video game adaptations, there has been some heated discourse surrounding the Borderlands film. Directed by horror icon, Eli Roth, the film struggled through development before finally being slated for release in 2024. Borderlands is based on the widely popular sci-fi first-person shooter of the same name and is admittedly not the easiest property to adapt. The first game is largely considered the weakest, with only a general overarching plot and no emotional character arc. Borderlands 2 is an entirely different matter, and that has a lot to do with the villainy of charismatic dictator, Handsome Jack.
The upcoming Cate Blanchett-fronted Borderlands film is the start of a «Borderlands Cinematic Universe», according to Gearbox founder Randy Pitchford.

Right off the bat, it should be clear that Borderlands is not an easy game to adapt. The video game series takes place in the colorful world of Pandora, where you play one of a few vault hunters looking for a rumored treasure. Unlike Max’s best new show of 2023, The Last of Us, there is not a clear emotional throughline to follow. In the first game, players can choose from several different characters who rarely interact with anyone they’re not shooting at. Borderlands 2 is where the franchise hits its stride as you fight a malicious — if hilarious — dictator.
Gearbox's founder has seemingly teased an unannounced Borderlands game, and some fans think a reveal is right around the corner.
