Before there was PlayStation and Xbox, before there was Sega, even before there was Nintendo, at least in your home, there was Atari. The studio created Pong which should tell you everything you need to know about how influential it has been on the video game industry. It also got into the home console game by the late 1970s, and if you have been longing to relive that iconic era of gaming, or introduce it to the next generation of gamers, a modern recreation of the Atari 2600 is coming this holiday season.
The Atari 2600+, a modern replica of the console that has been slightly altered in two ways. Most importantly, the new version of the console has been adapted so it can be connected to modern consoles. The other change is its size. The Atari 2600+ was a big boy, and its new version is slightly smaller at 80 percent the size of the original console.

The 2600+ not only comes with a 10-in-1 cartridge with classics like Maze Craze and Missile Command, but cartridges for the original 2600, and also the follow-up system the Atari 7800, are compatible. That means if you or your parents have any Atari cartridges lying around, but the console on which they were once played has been lost to time, the 2600+ will make them playable again, giving them a whole new lease on life.
The Atari 2600+ is a replica of the original console created by Atari and sold through the late 1970s and early 1980s. Its recreation has been adapted to work with modern televisions, comes with a joystick, and also a 10-in-1 cartridge that features classic games like Maze Craze and Missile Command.
There will be a few other games available at launch if you don't have any old cartridges hidden away and you burn through the 10-in-1 collection. A 4-in-1 collection headlined by Breakout will also be available along with other multiplayer-focused games. The console comes with one joystick, an exact replica of the original controller, and additional joysticks, as well as the circular paddle controllers needed for the additional games, which will be available to buy separately.
Last but certainly not least, for those of you who want your Atari 2600+ collection to be truly complete, Berzerk: Enhanced Edition and Mr. Run and Jump will also be able to buy separately. The 2023 version of the console and all of the accessories and games mentioned above will be released on November 17, 2023, so just in time for the holidays, but you can pre-order all of it right now. Pre-orders for the Atari 2600+ can be placed through the Amazon link above.
