The first Super Smash Bros. Ultimate update in over two years, version 13.0.2, arrived on Valentine's Day and brought Sora Amiibo compatibility to the game just days ahead of the figure's planned launch. However, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate players looking for anything else in the version 13.0.2 patch notes will be left sorely disappointed, as the notes only covered the Sora Amiibo.
Though the version 13.0.2 update is the first major content update for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate in some time, that has not stopped the game from bringing new content for players to enjoy. Throughout early 2024, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate has hosted some new Spirit events to give players a chance to get Spirits that feature characters from other games, such as Hades and Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, that were released on the Switch during and after the DLC production period for the game. It remains to be seen what other Spirits will be added to Super Smash Bros. Ultimate following version 13.0.2.
However, the newest update to Super Smash Bros. Ultimate saw the addition of one thing only. Though not a big patch in terms of file size, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate version 13.0.2 was released on Valentine's Day. Players will need to connect to the internet to download and install the update. According to Nintendo, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate version 13.0.2 added compatibility for the Sora Amiibo figure. Nothing else was stated in the official patch notes. By comparison, the previous version 13.0.1 update was the last major balance patch added to Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. That update arrived nearly two months after the reveal and subsequent release of Sora to the roster as the final DLC character for the game.
As for the Sora Amiibo figure itself, it will launch on Friday, February 16, at various retailers across the globe with a starting MSRP of $15.99. Like other Amiibo figures that are compatible with Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, the Sora Amiibo can be used as an Amiibo fighter character in casual battles. The Amiibo fighter can be leveled up to 50 and can fight against other players and Amiibo fighters in a variety of free-for-all brawls. Given that Sora is a popular character, the demand from both Kingdom Hearts and Super Smash Bros. fans will make the Sora Amiibo a hot commodity.
Following the announcement thatSuper Smash Bros. creator Masahiro Sakurai was quitting YouTube later this year, fans took it as a sign of his return to full-time game development. Only time will tell if his next project will be a new Super Smash Bros. entry or something else.
Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is a fast-paced fighting game developed by Bandai Namco. It features over 70 characters from various video game franchises, each with unique abilities and
