Star Wars Outlaws will hit the market on August 30 following a short early access period. Ubisoft itself accidentally leaked the game's release date while making preparations to debut the Star Wars Outlaws story trailer on April 9.
The much-anticipated title has been in the making since 2021, when Ubisoft and Disney reached an agreement over the project just as EA's decade-long exclusivity deal to make Star Wars games was coming to an end. Star Wars Outlaws was officially unveiled in June 2023 with a lengthy cinematic.
Another Star Wars Outlaws trailer is scheduled to drop later today, April 9, at 12pm ET. Although Ubisoft has been coy about whether the promo would include the game's long-awaited release date announcement, the company ended up answering that question prematurely and inadvertently. Namely, the original description of the trailer's YouTube Premiere published by Ubisoft Japan bluntly stated that Star Wars Outlaws will be released on August 30.
Fans who buy either the Gold or Ultimate Edition of the game will get to play it three days early, as per the same source. Neither of those versions have yet been officially announced, so their pricing, content, and other details are currently unclear. Based on the company's recent track record, it is plausible that Ubisoft+ Premium subscribers will also get to participate in the early access period, as they are likely to be able to access the game's Ultimate Edition as part of their membership perks.
The unwittingly expansive trailer description was redacted by Ubisoft Japan within minutes of going live in the early morning hours ET on April 9. Shortly thereafter, the company took down the YouTube Premiere itself, but not before the prematurely shared release date started making the rounds on social media. The video description also confirmed that Star Wars Outlaws will feature an expansion pass, albeit without elaborating on its contents. Those details will presumably be made official once the game's story trailer drops at 12pm ET, which is also when its pre-orders may go live.
This turn of events confirms a recent theory that Star Wars Outlaws could hit the market a bit earlier than expected; since Ubisoft hasn't committed to a more concrete release window beyond its current fiscal year, which ends in March 2025, some industry watchers were expecting the game won't drop before the 2024 holiday season. While that time frame overlaps with the expected launch window of the next mainline Assassin's Creed entry, Ubisoft has never been afraid to launch its AAA titles close together. The first concrete indications that Star Wars Outlaws could be released earlier than that began emerging in late March, when the game received an age rating in Australia,

As an Assassin's Creed girlie, I enjoyed Assassin's Creed Mirage, a pared down (but still big game, which is really just proof of how bloated AAA games have gotten, but I'll stop because it's not time to take my personal bugbear for a walk) Ass Creed game that was closer to the simplicity of the older games in the stab 'em up stealth-action series. Yesterday creative director Stéphane Boudon and art director Jeal-Luc Sala took to Reddit for an AMA, and in response to a question about plans for Mirage DLC, Boudon said no - but that they have ideas for more stories for Basim.
Assassin's Creed Mirage launched in October last year, offering a pared back, back-to-the basics experience reminiscent of older games in the series. The action-adventure title from Ubisoft took players to 9th-century Baghdad, putting them in the shoes of Basim Ibn Ishaq, a street thief who joins the Hidden Ones and rises through the ranks to become a master assassin. While there's no word on if the franchise will revisit the character again, Assassin's Creed Mirage creative director has said that the team has ideas about where Basim's story could go.
Assassin's Creed Hexe, which is currently a code name and is set to launch after the Japan-set Assassin's Creed Red, is the subject of a new report from Insider Gaming, which claims the title is aiming for a release in 2026. You'll apparently be playing as a female protagonist called Elsa, who comes equipped with supernatural abilities. One of which is said to be the ability to control cats, with footage sent to the outlet supposedly depicting a chase sequence where the player distracts guards by taking control of a feline.
Assassin’s Creed Codename Red is the series’ next mainline instalment, but we also know what’s next after the Japan-set game. Alongside Red, in 2022, Ubisoft also announced Assassin’s Creed Codename Hexe, a game that, as per reports, is set in Central Europe and focuses on the witch trials during the 16th century. Now, new potential details on the title have emerged courtesy of a report published by Insider Gaming’s Tom Henderson.
For some time now, we’ve known Ubisoft has two big Assassin’s Creed projects in the works – the more traditional Japanese ninja and samurai epic Codename Red, and the more experimental Codename Hexe. In development at Ubisoft Montreal, we know Assassin’s Creed Hexe will be a “different type of game” with a dark witchcraft-focused storyline and perhaps a more linear structure, but beyond that, we haven’t heard much about what’s cooking.
Assassin's Creed Hexe's protagonist will possess magical abilities, such as a way to possess cats, and to manage some form of fear system, according to a recent report. Assassin's Creed Hexe has only received a teaser trailer so far, leaving much to the rumor mill and speculation, but it seems to take place during the 16th-century Witch Hunts of the Holy Roman Empire.
As many fans know, Assassin's Creed Red has been the codename for the franchise's open-world RPG set in Feudal Japan. Sometimes these code names carry implications about a title, such as Assassin's Creed Valhalla's codename being Kingdoms, representing the game's structure. Unfortunately, all that can really be derived from Assassin's Creed Red is its setting in Japan. However, now a leaker has claimed that the real title of Assassin's Creed Red is Assassin's Creed Shadows, which does carry some interesting implications for the title.
Sonic x Shadow Generations has already received age classifications in several jurisdictions, with its latest rating emerging on April 19. This turn of events is a promising sign for Sega's fandom, as it indicates that Sonic x Shadow Generations is on course to hit the store shelves without any delays.
Since unveiling the eye-watering $130 Ultimate Edition of Star Wars Outlaws last week, Ubisoft has been under fire from fans furious a full-priced single-player game would even warrant a Season Pass in the first place. Worse, acquiring the Season Pass is the only way to «play the exclusive Jabba's Gambit mission at launch».
Eivor's Raven Clan outfit from Assassin's Creed Valhalla has become available for Assassin's Creed Mirage players to redeem and equip with Basim. Assassin's Creed Valhalla, which was released back in 2020, was Ubisoft's latest large-scaled RPG-style Assassin's Creed game. Set during the Viking age of Anglo-Saxon England, Valhalla introduced a new assassin, named Eivor, who was part of the Raven Clan.
Last year's enjoyable back-to-basics Assassin's Creed entry is now available to play for free, thanks to a limited-time trial.
