Assassin's Creed Hexe's protagonist will possess magical abilities, such as a way to possess cats, and to manage some form of fear system, according to a recent report. Assassin's Creed Hexe has only received a teaser trailer so far, leaving much to the rumor mill and speculation, but it seems to take place during the 16th-century Witch Hunts of the Holy Roman Empire.
It's worth noting that Assassin's Creed Hexe is believed to release in 2026 or later, coming after the franchise's next open-world RPG, Assassin's Creed Red. This title, set in Feudal Japan, has also seen its fair share of reports, rumors, and leaks, with it being believed the official title of AC Red is Assassin's Creed Shadows. Either way, fans may very well learn more at the Ubisoft Forward event on June 10.
Insider Gaming previously reported that Assassin's Creed Hexe would feature a single female protagonist, named Elsa, who wields some form of supernatural or magical abilities. Given the purported setting, this is not a surprise. It is also said to be a more linear game than recent titles, though it will feature some key elements of open-world titles. Now, Insider Gaming reports that it has seen footage of Elsa using a spell to possess a cat. In this form, Elsa reportedly distracts some German soldiers to divert their attention, presumably to escape. Insider Gaming describes the setting as «dark and gloomy» and this footage takes place in the «cobbled streets» of a city.
What's more, Insider Gaming reports that Assassin's Creed Hexe will feature a fear system similar to AC Syndicate's Jack The Ripper DLC—or that, at least, the current plan is to do so. If Assassin's Creed Hexe does indeed take place during a Witch Hunt, it would make a lot of sense and play well into the game's overarching theme. It could perhaps even expand on the NPC interactions seen in Assassin's Creed Mirage, as it doesn't sound like they'll necessarily be neutral to Elsa.
Until Ubisoft confirms such details about Assassin's Creed Hexe, however, it's best that fans take this information with a grain of salt. The fear system is described as a plan, for one, and there's plenty of time for things to change, for two.Assassin's Creed Hexe has given off spooky, horror game vibes since its initial reveal though, and if Ubisoft manages to follow through, the future of the franchise is exciting. Indeed, it seems a given that the time period, setting, and key events should dictate the gameplay style and features, instead of developers attempting to fit everything into an open-world mold.

As an Assassin's Creed girlie, I enjoyed Assassin's Creed Mirage, a pared down (but still big game, which is really just proof of how bloated AAA games have gotten, but I'll stop because it's not time to take my personal bugbear for a walk) Ass Creed game that was closer to the simplicity of the older games in the stab 'em up stealth-action series. Yesterday creative director Stéphane Boudon and art director Jeal-Luc Sala took to Reddit for an AMA, and in response to a question about plans for Mirage DLC, Boudon said no - but that they have ideas for more stories for Basim.
Assassin's Creed Mirage launched in October last year, offering a pared back, back-to-the basics experience reminiscent of older games in the series. The action-adventure title from Ubisoft took players to 9th-century Baghdad, putting them in the shoes of Basim Ibn Ishaq, a street thief who joins the Hidden Ones and rises through the ranks to become a master assassin. While there's no word on if the franchise will revisit the character again, Assassin's Creed Mirage creative director has said that the team has ideas about where Basim's story could go.
