Star Citizen's single-player campaign, Squadron 42, is now «feature complete,» according to Cloud Imperium Games' Chris Roberts in a video released over the weekend at CitizenCon.
During Star Critizen's conference in Los Angeles over the weekend, CIG debuted a deep dive trailer showcasing Squadron 42 for the first time in years. While it was part of the original Kickstarter back in 2012, Squadron 42 was spun off as a standalone project later on and has been the subject of scrutiny after multiple delays over the years.
However, Roberts states that Squadron 42 is now «feature complete» and that the team is moving into the polish phase.
«We are excited to announce that Squadron 42 Is now feature complete. As we move into the polishing phase, we're fully focused on optimizing and fine-tuning all aspects of the gameplay experience to deliver an unprecedented cinematic adventure.»
The deep dive, which is a 26-minute-long look at Squadron 42, highlights the gameplay, characters, environment, and more that players will experience when they finally can jump into the single-player campaign fully for themselves. While CIG stopped short of announcing a release window, the fact that it's the first time we've seen it in years and the dive is as deep as it is, gives some hope we might actually see it release soon. You can check out the full deep dive in the trailer embed below. Last year, Cloud Imperium Games' Carl Jones told MCV/Develop that Squadron 42 could still be "one or two years more." So, who knows? Maybe we're finally in the end game for this part of Star Citizen's storied yet controversial development.
