With the release of Spider-Man 2 just over a month away, developer Insomniac Games has started going all out to try and get us all excited for launch day. We're seeing developers reveal new features and additions that will build upon the foundation that the previous two games laid down, and Spider-Man 2 is even promising to be the best-looking game in the series so far thanks to the fact the game will be the first one exclusive to the PS5.
Insomniac has been using Spider-Man 2's new PS5 exclusivity to the fullest, and even stated in a recent interview with IGN that this game will be the "culmination of everything [Insomniac has] learned" about developing for the PS5. For example, it was revealed in this interview that Spider-Man 2 players won't have to choose between Quality and Performance modes if they want ray tracing, as both will have the feature built in from the start.

"We did Spider-Man Remastered, Miles Morales, and Ratchet and Clank," explains Mike Fitzgerald, Director of Core Technology. "And so as our fourth title for the PS5, we've really gotten to leverage everything we've seen in developing those games. Our performance mode for this title has ray tracing on by default. We've really expanded ray traced reflections throughout the game. It's on the water and the oceans and really gives a more realistic picture everywhere."
"There's no mode of this game that has the ray tracing turned off, no need for it. We've really figured out how to deliver what we feel like is the right Spider-Man visuals and we want to make sure every player is seeing that."
Spider-Man was already one of the better looking titles we have on PlayStation 5 at the moment, so the fact that those who prefer a better frame rate won't have to miss out on nice little features like ray tracing is definitely a welcome bonus. In fact, shortly after the release of Miles Morales, an updated Performance RT Mode was added which gave Performance Mode users ray tracing, so it's nice that this feature will be built in upon launch this time around.
As for the other bits of new info that have come out over the past few days, we now now that Spider-Man 2 contains a bunch of little nods to characters from the Spider-Verse movies. We also found out that you shouldn't go expecting Gwen Stacey to show up at any point during the game, as narrative lead Jon Paquette told us that she "isn't part of [Insomniac's] story".
