Sony has set up a new production line in Brazil, where it will manufacture physical PlayStation 5 game discs.
Production will take place at Sony’s “state of the art” facility in the Manaus Free Trade Zone in Northern Brazil, a free import and export trade area where fiscal incentives apply.
The facility was previously built by Sony in collaboration with multinational entertainment, electronics and accessories company Solutions 2 GO, and produces games on discs which are distributed throughout Brazil and other Latin American countries.
Until now, the facility could only produce physical media for other PlayStation consoles, but it has now been adapted to support PS5 games up to 100GB in size, such as God of War Ragnarök.
“Here at Sony Interactive Entertainment, we appreciate the support that our Brazilian community has given to the PlayStation brand and our products,” said Miguel Cunha, senior director of PlayStation Latin America.
“We are excited to share the news that, from now on, PlayStation 5 physical discs of our exclusive and third-party games will be produced in Brazil.”
He added: “To ensure maximum efficiency in the production process, a team of experts from Sony Interactive Japan spent weeks in Brazil working on installation, programming and training local staff. The initiative reinforces the commitment to Brazil and the Brazilian community.”
The commitment to produce physical games for Latin America will be seen as another boon for game preservation, especially given that the Digital Edition of Sony’s redesigned ‘PS5 Slim’ now has the ability to attach a disc drive.

Although Sony was limited by what it could do with the PlayStation 5 Pro, the upcoming mid-generation refresh system has been designed to provide developers easy and economical ways to implement enhancements in games already in development.
Sony is planning a new PlayStation Showcase for next month, according to known insider Jeff Grubb.
Sony has announced that the slimmer variant of the PlayStation 5 console, which first launched in the US in November last year, will be available in India, starting April 5. Both the disc and digital editions of PS5 slim will go on sale in the country this week, with stock availability at participating retailers confirmed. PS5 slim, a lighter and thinner version of the original console, retains much of the PlayStation 5 design language, but comes with a detachable disc drive and slightly bigger storage.
Jim Ryan shared one last thing about PlayStation, that was clearly for the fans.
A God of War fan created an adorable Kratos doll, complete with a tiny Leviathan axe. Kratos is known as a fierce and violent character, but players were able to see his gentler side as a father to Atreus in 2018's God of War and 2022's God of War Ragnarok, with this doll making the Ghost of Sparta look even softer.
There's been a lot of chatter about this Stellar Blade demo recently. First, it was released accidentally, and although Sony took it back down pretty quickly, it wasn't fast enough to stop a few people playing and sharing footage online. So, we knew a demo was coming, and it wasn't much later that we got official confirmation. Now, the time has come: it's available to download and play right now on PS5. Those in the US can click here, and it's here for UK readers.
