PlayStation Showcase to Take Place Next Month, Jeff Grubb Says; Silent Hill 2 Remake Could be Present

One gamer has discovered a bag of officially licensed PlayStation-branded pasta from Italy, each piece of which is shaped like the four iconic sacred symbols. This pasta is quite the novelty, to say the least, and it's surely going to go down as one of the weirder bits of merchandising in PlayStation history.

From the looks of it, former PlayStation console exclusive Kena Bridge of Spirits is coming to Xbox Series consoles.

A new rumor suggests that a remake of the classic PS1 title MediEvil 2 will debut at the speculated PlayStation Showcase in May. The report originates from Orangee, a supposed playtester who previously leaked details about upcoming Gravity Rush projects, and alleges that the game is being handled by the same team who shipped the 2019 MediEvil remake.

Sony routinely adds new games to the PlayStation Plus Game Catalog, a curated library of PS4 and PS5 titles that’s accessible to those subscribed to PlayStation Plus’ Extra and Premium tiers at no additional cost. As is the case with all such subscription services though, the PS Plus Game Catalog’s library of games is a rolling one that also routinely sees games being removed.

Through the '90s and '00s, Sony toured the US with what it called the PlayStation Experience truck, an 18-wheeler with a trailer that effectively served as a portable E3 show floor, showcasing new and upcoming games to fans around the country. Now, the 2006 trailer has resurfaced on Facebook Marketplace at an asking price of $70,000.

Seven games in the Final Fantasy series are leaving the PlayStation Plus Game Catalogue next month.

Earlier today, it was claimed that a remake of Dead Space 2 was in development at publisher Electronic Arts, but had been shelved indefinitely due to the original game's poor sales. Reputable industry insider Jeff Grubb claimed that the title was in the "concept" phase, before EA Motive were taken off the project to work on a new Battlefield and Iron Man title.

Upon its launch in February, Helldivers 2 got off to a better start than almost anyone could have expected, attracting players on both PS5 and PC in droves and selling at a faster pace than even Sony would have anticipated. Two months on from its release, the co-op shooter is continuing to maintain momentum in impressive fashion.

Another entry in the SOCOM franchise might be in the works, with a mention of one such possible project recently being spotted in one actor's resume. However, that evidence appears shaky at best, in part because the said actor had passed away some time ago.

The Sea of Thieves PS5 version will be a crucial test for other former Xbox exclusives coming to rival platforms, according to outlet The Verge.

Sony likes to put on major State of Play livestreams and host its PlayStation Showcase during the month of May, and it appears the company is gearing up to do so once again in 2024. Giant Bomb journalist Jeff Grubb reports he's heard «a bunch of times» from sources that Sony is planning an event for May, and it sounds more like another big PlayStation Showcase rather than a more subdued State of Play.

Reports from some familiar faces suggest that Sony still has some «smaller» PS5 exclusives set for the tail end of 2024. Insiders and various industry types agree that they'll likely be seen at next month's rumoured PlayStation event. The consensus seems to be that the long-awaited Silent Hill 2 remake will be one, and the rumoured standalone Astro Bot game will be another.
