Sonic fans can't believe how difficult Frontiers' Final Horizon update is, with players particularly struggling with the trial towers and their lack of checkpoints.
Nearly a whole year after Sonic Frontiers' initial launch, Sonic Team has been given a second chance at the game's finale with the Final Horizon, a free update to the game that not only changes the final few hours of the game and gives Sonic a brand-new version of his most powerful form, but also lets you play as Tails, Amy, and Knuckles for the first time in a mainline entry in a very long time.

So far, impressions of the free update have been positive and it seems like Sonic fans are having a blast getting to play as the rest of the cast, but there's one thing about the Final Horizon that has surprised everyone - its difficulty. Aside from annoying pinball minigames with stupidly high score requirements, one of the biggest complaints about Frontiers at launch was how easy it was, especially once you'd levelled up Sonic.
Well, it seems that Sonic Team took all those complaints personally and decided to give everyone exactly what they were asking for, as lots of Sonic fans are taking to social media to point out how surprisingly difficult it is. Over on the Sonic Frontiers subreddit, several players have shared memes about how tough they're finding it, with Redditor SonicFanatic67 saying, "God damn, Kishimoto seriously took offence to people calling his game too easy. I love the challenge, but god DAMN".
Elsewhere, DickWriter69 (brilliant name) said, "Bro the DLC is hard as fuck. They really listened to the ppl saying the base game is too easy". Players are specifically calling out the Snake Trial, which tasks you with defeating four enemies with Cyloop in under two minutes, and the Trial Towers, which you have to climb in one go with no checkpoints, as the main parts of the update that are giving them difficulty so far. It's not just those moments though, as one popular post on the Frontiers subreddit says that even the extreme difficulty puzzles are a nightmare now.
In fact, some players are even complaining that the update has made things too hard for casual players and that even turning down the difficulty to Easy doesn't make things much better. Redditor Tough-Priority-4330 said that climbing the Trial Towers is "impossible" and that you can't get through it the intended way and have to take an alternate path. Although it's a shame that certain parts of the game seemingly aren't working quite right, at least we'll never hear that Frontiers is too easy ever again.
