The cosy musical adventure of Snufkin: Melody of Moominvalley will be coming out for PC and Nintendo Switch on 7th March, Hyper Games and Raw Fury have announced. An iOS and Android is also planned.
Featuring music by Sigur Rós and with an art style inspired by that of original creator Tove Jansson, with an almost paper cutout style, Snufkin: melody of Moominvalley looks like a wonderful adaptation of the classic children’s stories.
The game has you playing as Snufkin, a nomadic character who featured in most of the original stories. Known for their big green hat, pipe smoking and harmonica playing, they’re also a bit of an anti-establishment character with a great disliking for authority figures like the Park Keeper.
That’s something that comes through in this game, as you have to try to restore the valley to its natural glory. You’ll distract police officers, pull out signs, and knock over misplaced statues as you vigorously try to bring back nature and the inhabitants’ home while putting an end to the industrious Park Keeper’s plans. This is an open world game with both musical and environmental puzzles to solve along the way.
“Millions of readers of all ages have fallen in love with the Moomin stories. For them, this game will offer a new take on the familiar characters, in situations which could have taken place in the original stories, but which are coming to life in a new, stunning setting”, said Roleff Kråkström, Managing Director of Moomin Characters. “At the same time, the game is a wonderful introduction of the characters to audiences who are not familiar with the Moomins, and who will surely find their favourites among the cast.”
It all sounds rather lovely, and we’re keen to see how it’s all come together in just a few short weeks.
