Snipperclips developer releases demo for retro survival horror Crow Country

Steelkrill Studio, creators of the popular horror games The Backrooms 1998, Trenches, and The Voidness—which just left Early Access yesterday—has announced its next title: Rotten Flesh. Steelkrill’s previous titles are known for their uniquely creepy art-style, and it looks like Rotten Flesh will be no different as it features PSX-style graphics and gameplay.

ARK: Survival Ascended stands on the shoulders of ARK: Survival Evolved, which was also an incredible open-world survival game for dozens of players. But the games only work well if the server settings are at their most optimal.

Newly released cooperative horror indie game Lethal Company is getting a lot of buzz from early players. It's a simple setup: You and your crew of three other scavengers drop on to an abandoned moon station, get as many valuables as you can, and get out. If that seems simple, well, there are a lot of ways for it to go wrong, and a lot of them have way more legs than I prefer anything larger than a thumbnail to have.

Alan Wake 2 is the horror game of the moment, and it's the right moment, with Halloween just around the corner. This weekend is the perfect time to bundle up with something pumpkin spiced, take a cautious glance left and right for black cats, and then dive into a spooky game. 

As a perfectly bite-sized treat for spooky season, the farm sim where you're a vampire has kicked off a quick demo to give us a taste of its pumpkin decor and midnight spellcasting. The first demo for Moonlight Peaks lets you play seven in-game days of foraging, farming, and decorating, with the option to take a snapshot of your creation once you're finished. 

OK, so there's plenty in Worldless that won't remind you of Silksong or its predecessor, Hollow Knight. Rather than a medieval bug exploring a labyrinth of bioluminescent rot and lore, you're a vaguely humanoid cloud of shards and points, roaming an abstract landscape of soft curves and shafts of light. You're Rayman but fancy, basically, and the world is no world but an uncreated expanse of elemental forces, though you'll find you can run and jump on it much as you can the ledges of Hallownest. The combat is a different beast, too. Rather than Souls-inflected 2D hack-and-slash, it's turn-based battling with a twist - each turn gives you a countdown in which to perform real-time combos, mixing melee and magical attacks.

Another classicly-styled horror game indie game joins the genre’s ranks today with the announcement of SFB Games’ “Crow Country.” Like other relatively recent horror titles such as Signalis and Tormented Souls, Crow Country appears to be taking heavy influence from the original Resident Evil in terms of how it plays. Its visuals appear to be inspired by an entirely different source though: Final Fantasy VII, right down to the blocky character models. All that said though, it appears that the game won’t be a one-to-one recreation in either case. No, there’s more going on here.

Tangle Tower studio SFB Games has announced Crow Country, a survival horror game with PlayStation era visuals coming to PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, and PC via Steam in 2024. A demo is available now for PlayStation 5 and PC.

Marvel's Spider-Man 2 developer Insomniac Games has said it will replace a Cuban flag in Miles Morales' home with the correct Puerto Rican design.

SFB Games, the developers behind Snipperclips and Tangle Tower, are dipping their toes into PS1-inspired survival horror with Crow Country. Right now, it’s slated for PS5 and Steam, and while I can’t find a release window, there’s a demo available starting today.
