This lack of clear marketing is likely part of why the initial response to has been a bit mixed, particularly among some who jumped at purchasing the game while expecting a very different style of game mechanics than what it actually is.

It is a strategy simulator that lets players become the leader of one of the major factions of the universe and make choices to explore the galaxy through diplomacy, espionage, warfare, or a mixture of each. Similar to games, there is a need to construct what are basically cities on habitable planets so that they can research, build, and gather items. This is a very detail-focused type of gameplay with many moving parts to keep track of.

Players can recruit the familiar characters matching their faction and have access to many of the starships from the series. Unfortunately, the USS Enterprise does not come right away, but that makes it all the more rewarding when it is available for the first time after completing the necessary requirements.

Like all 4X strategy games, is a game based on deep thinking and requires a lot of strategic preparation for what could happen next. Exploring the map, expanding across new worlds and space stations, defending territories, and managing civic districts and cities that can get resources and help with research tasks make up the bulk of the gameplay.
