The upcoming season of Diablo 4 has implemented changes in everything from itemization to class balance, and crafting systems are no different. Elixir changes were revealed on the PTR, and we're seeing a big upgrade to existing Elixirs and two brand-new Elixirs!
All previous versions of Elixirs have been replaced with versions that provide materials on use (such as Potent Elixir of Cold Resistance), and there are now just two tiers per Elixir (i.e.
Elixir of Cold Resistance and Elixir of Cold Resistance II). This will help reduce the clutter of Elixirs in players' inventories that many kept around for the 5% experience bonus.
Previously, every single tier of an Elixir had a 5% experience bonus tied to it, and the effect of the Elixir would be the only scaling portion (i.e. Weak Elixir of Cold Resistance would increase Cold Resistance by +10%, maximum cold resistance by +2% and Heady Elixir of Cold Resistance increases Cold Resistance by +30%, Maximum Cold Resistance by +6%).

Blizzard has asked the Diablo 4 community to provide questions regarding Season 4's upcoming itemization and Helltide changes, which will be answered in a developer video! From April 2 to April 9, the Diablo development team opened up its first Public Test Realm for players to provide feedback on massive gameplay changes to itemization and systems like Helltide. State of the Classes in Diablo 4: A PTR Deep Dive Players looking to leave questions should respond to the official Diablo account's post on X, formerly known as Twitter. Global Community Development Director Adam Fletcher also made clear that the video will be separate from the upcoming developer livestream, which will focus on feedback regarding the latest PTR cycle: We're interested as well — what would be your burning questions regarding itemization in Helltide, looking at the upcoming changes with Season 4? Let us know in the comments!
It turns out the Diablo 4 team didn't quite bring everything to bear in Season 4's Public Test Realm, as there are "a few small" extra items to come at launch.
In a recent Reddit thread, Diablo 4 Global Community Development Director Adam Fletcher seemed to confirm that the previously datamined Season 4 theme involving the Iron Wolves was accurate. Fletcher stated that «most people have seen some of the things that got out regarding the Season,» implying that information that «got out» was accurate. While this information was previously reported as speculation, it's highly likely that at least a portion of it is correct, based off Fletcher's response.
Diablo's 31st Season, Season of the Forbidden Archives is now available for play! While there isn't much for Patch Notes, this Season is one that is beloved by players. During the Season of the Forbidden Archives, Kanai's Cube will be entirely unrestricted! Diablo 3 Season 31 Patch Notes When selecting Legendary Powers in Kanai's Cube, you will be able to use any combination of Legendary Powers you wish! This means that you will be able to select 3 Weapon Powers, or 2 Jewelry Powers and 1 Armor Power, etc — instead of the standard 1 Weapon, 1 Armor, and 1 Jewelry Power. This restriction being removed allows for many wacky and wild combinations and the reemergence of some incredibly off meta builds.
In the Public Test Realm for Patch 1.4.0 of Diablo 4, countless items, skills, and stats were heavily altered to prepare the game for its fourth Season, as well as to pave the way for the upcoming Vessel of Hatred expansion. In addition to many of these changes, Implicit Affixes on Weapons have been adjusted as well. These are the fixed Affixes that are tied to the Weapon Type that cannot be altered, such as Vulnerable Damage on Crossbows and Critical Strike Damage on Swords. Many of these Affixes have been reduced significantly, and while it hurts to lose damage output from a change like this, it is a necessary change. Reducing these values along with other changes in Itemization will go a long way toward reducing the bloated damage values that affect the game negatively. By allowing players to deal millions upon millions of damage in a single hit, the sense of scale and player power is lost. On top of that, balancing gameplay becomes much more challenging — thus, it's only natural that Implicit Affixes receive some tweaks at the same time as the rest of the Itemization rework.
In the upcoming Season 4 of Diablo 4 players will be able to filter by Item Power. Players may use the search bar and enter a number to filter out for that specific Item Power. In addition, when you search for an item with any filter or search query, the number of matching results will appear on the individual Stash Tabs!
As Diablo 4’s first PTR week comes to an end, players almost unanimously agree — next Season’s itemization overhaul is a big win! However, the upcoming changes have raised an interesting question: are Rare items going to be useless? Diablo 4 Season 4 Elixir Revamp Recruiting Diablo 4 Rogue Writers In the Season 4 PTR, Rare items only dropped with 2 random Affixes, while Legendary items always dropped with 3 Affixes. If this continues to be the case during Season 4, then Legendary items will always have greater potential over Rares.
When Diablo 3 got its pre-Reaper of Souls expansion patch dubbed 'loot 2.0' in 2014, it was credited with turning Blizzard’s action role-playing game around. Critics and players called loot 2.0 a big improvement on Diablo 3, with changes that sparked renewed interest from a community that had dropped off following the base game’s 2012 release. Now, 10 years later, Blizzard is aiming to repeat the trick with Diablo 4 Season 4.
As players continue exploring the PTR, the massive itemization changes coming to Diablo 4 in Season 4 are at the forefront of everyone's minds, but here's something you may have missed — Gems have received a refresh in preparation for the upcoming season!Amethyst, Emerald, Sapphire, and Topaz will now grant Primary Stats when socketed into Armor, boosting Strength, Dexterity, Willpower, and Intelligence respectively. Additionally, nearly all Gem effects have been buffed across the board. Here's a side-by-side comparison of the old effects and their upcoming changes:
With the PTR for Diablo 4's Season 4 ending this Tuesday (4/9), and a handful of important interactions still being bugged and non-playable, some players have rallied behind the desire to extend the PTR to identify and provide feedback on additional bugs. Adam Fletcher, Global Community Development Director, went to X (formerly known as Twitter) to respond to players' curiosity: While some players might feel as if their concerns are being ignored, don't! It's important to recognize there are likely many aspects of gameplay Blizzard is looking for data and feedback on, besides the issues the community is zeroing in on. D4 Forum community member boltbane also raised a good point — if Blizzard thinks it's necessary, there's still plenty of time for another PTR before Season 4 officially launches on May 14. PTR Known Issues & What to Expect With the PTR ending tomorrow, what new features or endgame progression are you looking to test next? Let us know in the comments below!
In Season 4 of Diablo 4, players will gain access to the Pit of Artificers, a new Endgame mechanic which pits players against the clock while fighting hordes of monsters. Slay enough in time, and you'll gain access to the final boss at the end — a mechanic incredibly similar in form to Diablo 3's Greater Rifts. This content shares a feature that punishes player deaths as well, however this penalty seems to be particularly unforgiving in Diablo 4.
