Rockstar Games confirms next Grand Theft Auto trailer coming in December

Rockstar has started sending emails around about Grand Theft Auto VI.

A former member of staff at Rockstar who worked on a raft of Grand Theft Auto games has pulled their behind-the-scenes development blog after someone from the studio got in touch.

Nearly 15 years ago, Rockstar Games announced a brand-new game: Agent, which ultimately never saw the light of day. And according to a former Rockstar employee, the would-be title had to be dumped in favor of Grand Theft Auto V. 

Following Rockstar’s announcement that they are revealing Grand Theft Auto VI in a new trailer very soon, they’re already doing some housecleaning.

Remember Rockstar’s Agent? Announced in 2007 for the PlayStation 3, it was touted as a stealth action title set during the Cold War. It would receive sporadic updates before the trademark was eventually abandoned and it was removed from the developer’s website. However, new details are available thanks to former Rockstar North technical director Obbe Vermeij, who worked from 1999 to 2009.

GTA 6 leak: Gamers are eagerly awaiting the release of the first-ever trailer of the next Grand Theft Auto game, ubiquitously known as GTA 6. The game is predicted to offer a generational leap in gaming, and considering how Rockstar's last game, Red Dead Redemption 2 fared, these aren't entirely wild claims to make. Through various leaks, we've already known that the game is expected to be set in Vice City, Rockstar Games's fictional take on the city of Miami. Interestingly, this won't be the first game with Vice City as an open-world, as 2002's GTA: Vice City also featured the same. However, video game technology has grown by leaps and bounds since then, and GTA 6's Vice City could be the best-ever open world.

From The Last of Us and God of War to Mario and The Legend of Zelda (to name just a few), there has been no shortage of major gaming properties that are being adapted as TV shows or movies. And at a time where it feels like it’s only a matter of time before most major gaming franchises get snapped up for similar adaptations, it’s only natural to wonder when we’ll be seeing a Grand Theft Auto film.

Rockstar Games is preparing to reveal the first trailer for Grand Theft Auto 6 in early December (perhaps at The Game Awards on December 7th). Despite leaks and reports of scaling down, there’s plenty of hype for the open-world title, rumored to release in 2025. Publisher Take-Two Interactive isn’t setting expectations, though.

The torturously long wait for Grand Theft Auto 6 is entering is final stretch now. With Rockstar Games having officially confirmed that it will be debuting the first trailer for the title in early December, the end is finally in sight for those who have been waiting for the series’ next instalment for over a decade. But of course, a question that many are still asking is- when exactly will the game come out?

GTA 6 is getting a trailer in early December, Rockstar Games has confirmed. The news follows a recent report claiming that the developer was planning an announcement ‘as early as this week.' Studio co-founder Sam Houser attested to those claims, adding that next month also marks Rockstar's 25th-anniversary celebration, and thanked players for their continued support over the decades. It's been over 11 years since Grand Theft Auto V launched in 2013, which at the time of writing has sold over 190 million copies — 5 million of them were sold in Q4 2023, thanks to next-gen upgrades and the GTA Online segment still going strong.

Take-Two Interactive revealed today that Grand Theft Auto V has now sold over 190 million units as of the end of September 2023. According to the company, that brings total lifetime sales of the franchise to 410 million units. It announced this number the same day as it officially confirmed the next game in the series, the trailer for which it plans to reveal next month.

After more than a decade, Rockstar Games will finally deliver a sequel to Grand Theft Auto 5, the multi-generational open-world crime spree that has sold more than 190 million copies. In December, GTA fans will get their first official look at the next Grand Theft Auto in trailer form, Rockstar has confirmed.
