The surprising revelation that Jim Ryan will retire as Sony Interactive Entertainment’s President and CEO at the end of March 2024 has been, perhaps predictably, met with glee from most corners of the wider video game world. In addition to courting controversy on a number of occasions, the British executive’s tenure has largely been marred by a change in corporate goals: an emphasis on games as a service which has yet to really bear fruit, a lack of engagement with enthusiasts, and a blank slate of upcoming first-party releases.

Capcom's ultra-stylish demon blaster Devil May Cry is back again, but in anime form. As part of Netflix's Drop 01 animation event, the streaming behemoth dropped a teaser for its upcoming DMC anime series—the one announced back in 2018—courtesy of Adi Shankar, a name you'll recognise from his work as showrunner and executive producer on another animated Netflix series based on a videogame: Castlevania. DMC is being produced by Studio Mir, of Legend of Korra fame.

Devil May Cry is getting a new anime adaptation, Netflix has announced via a very brief teaser trailer. Capcom's beloved action series has always been an obvious candidate for such a project, and this one sounds promising. It's being crafted by South Korean animation outfit Studio Mir (The Legend of Korra, Voltron: Legendary Defender, Dota: Dragon's Blood, The Witcher: Nightmare of the Wolf and more), and it's being spearheaded by Adi Shankar, who was the producer on Netflix's lauded Castlevania anime.

An anime adaptation of Devil May Cry from Studio Mir is "coming soon" to Netflix, with longtime series developer Hideaki Itsuno confirmed to be acting as a supervisor on the show.

Netflix has revealed the first look at its Devil May Cry anime series coming to the subscription streaming service soon. First announced in 2018, it is being developed by Capcom, Studio Mir, and Netflix's Castlevania executive producer Adi Shankar. 

Capcom has announced a Devil May Cry anime for Netflix, though a release date is yet to be confirmed. The teaser trailer shows Dante performing some acrobatic gunplay, and not much else. There is also a brief part of the soundtrack which sounds suitably heavy for a Devil May Cry based anime.

Devil May Cry is a core video game series for many of us, allowing us to experience the forefront of battles against demonic hordes as Dante, a demon hunter looking to avenge his mother’s murder by destroying the evil creatures. If you’ve played through the series yourself, then you also probably agree that Devil May Cry would make an incredible anime series. Much like other Japanese classics such as Castlevania, Capcom’s iconic series is getting an anime adaptation and it’s coming soon to Netflix.

Netflix unveiled the announcement trailer for Devil May Cry, a new animated adaptation of the popular Capcom hack and slash action series, at its Drop 01 animation showcase on Wednesday. Executive produced by Adi Shankar (Castlevania) and written by Alex Larsen (Yasuke), the upcoming anime will consist of 8 episodes produced by Studio MIR, known for their previous work on such shows as The Legend of Korra, The Boondocks, Young Justice, and Harley Quinn.
