Grasshopper Manufacture has revealed when fans can play the first demo of the upcoming Shadows of the Damnedremaster, now titled Shadows of the Damned: Hella Remastered. A Shadows of the Damned remaster was announced last June, surprising many people as it was an underrated third-person shooter from the company and had been out of the limelight for over a decade.
Shadows of the Damned was developed by Grasshopper Manufacture and published by Electronic Arts in 2011. The game was spearheaded by director Suda51, who collaborated with former Resident Evil creative head Shinji Mikami and former Silent Hill composer Akira Yamaoka. Shadows of the Damned had a troubled production cycle, which Suda51 had expressed his frustrations over in the past. While the game received mixed reviews on launch, Shadows of the Damned has accrued a bit of a cult following over the years after fans revisited the original game before it was digitally delisted in 2021. Suda51 expressed enough fondness for Shadows of the Damned that he and Grasshopper got the IP rights from EA to publish the remaster, and fans will get the chance to play it for themselves soon.
Grasshopper Manufacture released a brand-new trailer for Shadows of the Damned: Hella Remastered, announcing its new title and revealing when players can play its first demo: PAX East, which is running from March 21-24 this year. PAX East is an annual expo taking place in Boston that features a number of game developers and gaming personalities. Celebrities like Game Theory creator MatPat, Final Fantasy 16 voice actor Ben Starr, and other notable creators will be present at the event. Grasshopper Manufacture and its parent company NetEase will have its own booth that contains a playable demo of Shadows of the Damned: Hella Remastered.
The trailer briefly shows off some of the gameplay of Shadow of the Damned: Hella Remastered, while also revealing some special guests from Grasshopper Manufacture being present at the booth, including director Suda51. Fans can even play a round of Blackjack at the booth against Suda51, getting the opportunity to get a set of signed Shadows of the Damned coasters if they beat him. The booth is also hosting a special quiz for the most ardent fans, where the first six participants to pass will earn a special novelty ring also based on the game.
A release window wasn't provided for the game in this trailer. Earlier this year, Suda51 stated that the Shadows of the Damned remaster is coming in 2024, so it appears the game is on-track for release if it has a playable demo available. Fans who are unable to attend PAX East this year will likely get a digital demo sometime before its release.

An Xbox 360 fan acquired a classic version of the popular console, but accidentally updated it, erasing the Blades dashboard in the process. There have been calls for Xbox to bring back the Blades dashboard in some capacity, but nothing to that effect has actually been announced at the time of this writing.
Shadows of the Damned was released way back in 2011 for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 as a collaboration between two of the most iconic Japanese video game makers: Shinji Mikami (of Resident Evil fame) and Goichi Suda, otherwise known as Suda51. Although the hyper-violent, third-person corridor shooter/action-adventure romp didn't make waves with its sales, critics were pretty positive. And now, after 13 long years, Grasshopper and Suda are bringingShadows of the Damned back with theHella Remastered edition, launching sometime this year.
