Princess Peach: Showtime! brings Mushroom Kingdom to the theater in March

Air Twister offers a unique window into both the future and the past. It sees the return of both a classic genre and an iconic developer, and while it began as an exclusive title for Apple Arcade it’s now making the jump to home consoles. Yu Suzuki stands amongst the most legendary game developers of all time, with a catalogue that takes in all-time arcade classics like OutRun and After Burner through to genre-defining series like Virtua Fighter and Shenmue. Air Twister sees him return to the rail-shooting genre that he arguably helped to create with Space Harrier, and we recently had a chance to catch up with him and go hands-on with the game.

Princess Peach: Showtime is scheduled to release in late March 2024, marking the launch of the first game starring Princess Peach as the protagonist in almost 20 years, and there’s a lot to look forward to. Straying from the traditional location of the Mushroom Kingdom which we typically see in Mario games, this adventure with Princess Peach should be on your radar of upcoming Nintendo Switch games if it’s not already. 

Another State of Play showcase from Sony has now been and gone, this time sharing news for previously revealed indie and third-party games. A fairly low-key affair for saying it was only the second general State of Play livestream of 2023, but there were a few announcements and reveals to take note of.

is giving Peach her rightful place in the spotlight in the franchise with an upcoming game that will allow her to take on several roles with the help of a magical companion named Stella. The latest spinoff follows Peach as she travels to watch a show at the Sparkle Theater, where dastardly plans prevail, and Peach must save the show and the day. There is no Mario or Luigi in sight this time, and Peach is able to show off her own capabilities as a hero of the Mushroom Kingdom.

Following many rumors that Princess Peach was going to be getting her own Nintendo Switch game, was officially announced with a release date during today’s Nintendo Direct. The monarch of the Mushroom Kingdom will be taking on Grape and the Sour Bunch using a myriad of different abilities to save the day.

Just when we thought all was over, Nintendo surprised fans right at the end of its newest Direct to announce that Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door is being remastered for the Nintendo Switch.
