The new set was first discovered in January 2024, when its trademark was originally filed, but little else was known about it so far, other than the heavy speculation that it revolves around the Stellar Type mechanic, introduced with the DLC for the video games.
Currently exclusive to the Generation 9 titles for Nintendo Switch, Stellar Type is part of the Terastal Phenomenon and no Pokémon is Stellar naturally. Instead, it is activated when they Terastallize. Stellar Types retain the typing weaknesses and resistances of the original Pokémon, while Stellar-type moves are always super-effective against Terastallized Pokémon. There are rumors that this is, somehow, going to be applied to the new cards. Now, new information about the set has been revealed, providing players and collectors with more information as to when they should be able to get the new expansion.
The release date for the new expansion has been revealed. According to a new post by , the Stellar Miracle set will be released on July 19. While there are no mentions as to what region it will be available in, is most likely exclusive to Japan, before its two parts get condensed into one for a release in the Western market under a new name. This is how sets are usually structured; ’s , for instance, was released as in Japan, only to arrive nearly two months later in the Western market.
If Stellar Miracle is released in Japan on July 19, players can expect the Western version of the set to arrive at some point between late August and mid-September.
As stated in ’s post, the official sell sheet for the set reveals that the expansion will introduce a new Stellar Tera type to the. At the moment, the details about this are scarce and a lot is up to speculation. considers that the Tera Pokémon ex cards could be printed as Stellar type instead of an alternate type, like the Dark-type Charizard ex, one of the most expensive cards in . Instead of being of a Dark-type, this Tera Pokémon ex card could be Stellar type, for example.
Another possibility detailed by is that the Stellar type cards get a unique rule box for the mechanic. The website also considers that there is a chance that both can occur. In a sense, these Stellar cards could operate somewhat like Pokémon VSTAR cards, which are evolutions of Pokémon V cards, with a slightly more punitive rule box when the card is Knocked Out. Of course, for now, everything is mere speculation, as details about the Stellar type mechanic in the expansion for have not yet been outlined.
