Even though the number of Pokemon created has now reached four figures, fewer than 50 of them have had the honor of being turned into Funko Pops. Grookey and Aipom are among some of the latest Pokemon to get the Funko Pop! treatment. Clearly those Pops have been pretty popular as Funko has already revealed Aipom and Grookey are getting flocked versions, and pre-orders for the Grass-type starter's new figure are already live.
For those unfamiliar with flocked Funko Pops, the figure's design is exactly the same as a regular Pop! in terms of appearance and dimensions, but it has a soft and slightly furry finish rather than hard plastic. Mewtwo, Umbreon, and of course Pikachu are among the Pokemon to have been flocked already, and now Grookey and Aipom will be joining them.
Like many Pops, Aipom and Grookey's new variants will be exclusive to specific storefronts. Flocked Grookey is only available at Amazon. Priced at $15, you can pre-order the figure through the link in the box below right now. Aipom's flocked Pop! will be an Entertainment Earth exclusive, although pre-orders don't appear to have gone live yet. Luxray won't be getting a flocked figure, but a jumbo version of the Pop! has been announced and will be a Target exclusive.
Pokemon's Grookey was turned into a Funko Pop!, and now it has been turned into a Flocked Funko Pop! The same dimensions and design as the regular figure, but with a fuzzy flocked finish like a few other Pokemon Pops available.
Even though we'll likely have to wait for Pokemon Day to learn more about the future of Pokemon's games, 2024 has already been a busy year for its Funko Pops. On top of three new additions led by Grookey, a Funko Pop! Moment recreating your starter choice in Pokemon Red & Blue proved incredibly popular. There are also six new pearlescent Pops coming our way, starting with Lucario, and Pichu likely coming next.
Pokemon plush business has been booming too. New to Pokemon's soft toy collection are its Sweet Support plushes. Sold in pairs attached via a retractable cord, each pairing includes a Pokemon and its pre-evolved baby form. So Pikachu is paired with Pichu, and then you pull the emotional baby Pokemon from its support Pikachu, the cord brings them back together so they're quickly hugging again.

There are many “plights” in the video game industry that are affecting the various businesses that inhabit it. Just this week alone, two major publishers announced that they were laying off a combined 1500 people, and more are likely to come in March. Another issue is the cost of games and the amount of cash just being thrown at them in an attempt to be good and sell well. That’s one of the reasons for the layoffs, in fact. The other side effect of such actions, as being proven right now by Tekken 8, is that microtransactions are popping up everywhere. Much to the dismay of gamers as a whole.
