Pokemon GO's new Evolve button has received a mixed reception from the community, with fans questioning its purpose. While players are always excited about the release of new Pokemon and research events, the introduction of new features in Pokemon GO has often been a tough path to tread for Niantic.
The month of April is shaping out to be quite an eventful one for Pokemon GO fans, with a plethora of exciting events lined up. From a Mega Heracross Raid Day in Pokemon GO to the return of the fan-favorite Bug Out event, there is plenty to look forward to. Amid that, Niantic dropped a surprise update adding a pretty interesting quality-of-life feature that has sparked a debate in the community.
In a new post on the TheSilphRoad subreddit, user RevCorex highlights the new quality-of-life feature introduced by Niantic. Apparently, players can now evolve their Pokemon directly from the Buddy screen in Pokemon GO. The button can be located right after the activities and walking progress section. Players will also be able to mega-evolve their Pokemon directly from this screen. While this prevents the hassle of players having to go to their storage to evolve their Pokemon, fans have mixed opinions about this feature.
Several fans highlighted that this feature was quite uncalled for, as it doesn't add much utility. The major concern emphasized by fans is the fact that it is much easier to accidentally click the evolve button, considering the fact that it is placed right above the Swap Buddies option. There are several instances where players would want to keep a Pokemon as their buddy and not evolve it in Pokemon GO, such as their GO Battle League buddies, so this newly added option paves the way for unintentional evolutions.
On the bright side, fans appreciated the fact that this shows the evolution progress for Pokemon that are tied to buddy quests in Pokemon GO. For instance, evolving Hisuian Qwilfish requires players to win 10 raids with the Pokemon as their buddy, while Galarian Slowpoke evolution needs 30 Psychic-Type Pokemon to be caught. However, many underlined that this feature could've been exclusive to only these special evolutions, which would alleviate the issue of accidental evolutions to an extent.
Niantic adding quality-of-life features is something that the community has generally been happy about, considering how infrequent they are. Fans continue to hope that this will be followed by an evolution and purification lock mechanic, something that the community has been demanding for years now.
