The PlayStation Store will soon be removing more than 1300 seasons of Discovery TV shows, even for users who bought them.
Sony recently sent messages to players who had previously purchased Discovery shows on the PlayStation Store, informing them that they will soon be unable to watch them.
“As of 31 December 2023, due to our content licensing arrangements with content providers, you will no longer be able to watch any of your previously purchased Discovery content and the content will be removed from your video library,” the message reads.
“We sincerely thank you for your continued support.”
A page on thePlayStation website lists the content that will be removed at the end of the year, consisting of 1,318 separate seasons of TV.
This includes such shows as MythBusters, An Idiot Abroad, Cake Boss, Deadliest Catch, American Chopper, Shark Week, How It’s Made and Street Outlaws.
The situation is notable in that it differs from the typical policy when games are delisted for licensing reasons. In most cases like this, players are usually still able to play and even re-download delisted games.
It would appear that the same is not true for video content, however. Indeed, this isn’t the first time content has been removed in this way from the PlayStation Store.
In August 2022, Sony removed StudioCanal content from the PlayStation Store, with 314 pieces of video content removed in Germany and 137 removed in Austria. As with the Discovery content, players who had bought any of these videos were unable to watch them after they were delisted.
The PlayStation Store stopped offering TV and movie content for purchase or rental in August 2021. However, when it initially announced this, it said existing purchases would still be available to access.

PlayStation will no longer be removing over 1,300 Discovery TV shows from its platform next month.
Epic Games Store has relaxed its content guidelines for publishers to allow games which have been rated Adults Only by the ESRB, so long as the rating has only been applied due to the presence of blockchain technology.
Alphabet Inc.'s agreement to pay $700 million to consumers and states and open the Google Play Store to competition will leave intact the heavily-criticized commissions the technology giant charges mobile app developers.
Unlike Steam, the Epic Games Store has a hard-and-fast rule against adult content. Its content guidelines state very clearly that «products with Adults Only ratings cannot be distributed on the Epic Games Store.» But it recently updated those guidelines to allow AO-rated games on the store for one specific reason: If they were given that rating because they involve blockchain trading.

It wasn't long ago that Epic Games CEO Tim Sweeney had to announce a significant reduction in the company's workforce, firing 16% of the employees (around 830 in total). The news caught everyone by surprise, as the company's pockets had been filled by loads of revenue generated by Fortnite as well as the increasingly successful Unreal Engine licensing program.
Starting from tomorrow through January 5, 2024, we’re celebrating the holiday season with a month full of activities for our PlayStation community. PlayStation VR2, Sony's current-gen virtual reality headset, is finally available in India. The news comes nearly 10 months after its launch in the US and costs a bit more than the standard PS5 in the country. The visor and Sense controllers alone cost Rs. 57,990, albeit one could also opt for the Horizon Call of the Mountain bundle, priced at Rs. 61,999. However, it seems there's not enough stock when it comes to online retailers. At the time of writing, only Amazon and e2z Store have the headset in stock, with the latter only listing the base edition. Other notable sites have the option to pre-book or enable email notifications whenever they're ready.
