PlayStation Portal Ranked Fourth in November US Sales Charts, PS5 Still on Top

The majority of 2023's Hogwarts Legacy physical sales in the UK came from the PlayStation 5 version, followed by the PS4 and Nintendo Switch versions.

“Oh, the weather outside is frightful, but inside it’s so delightful…” As much as these words are commonly associated with winter snowstorms, inclement weather and the general harshness of the great outdoors are year-long concerns. Be you gripped in the icy embrace of winter or hit with the heat of a summer’s sun, there’s one tried and true method to keep warm or stay cool, and that’s settling in at home with video games by yourself or with friends. And when things outdoors are getting nasty, it’s the comfy games that hit that sweet spot the strongest. Whether you’re curled up on the sofa or bed, with DualSense controller or PlayStation Portal in hand, here’s some suggestions of games to boot up when you need some soothing experiences to battle the dreariness of the outside.

Despite some of the critique it received when revealed, the PlayStation Portal was seemingly one of the most sought-after items in the video game world this holiday season. Pre-orders sold out everywhere almost immediately, and stock has been hard to find ever since. A couple of retailers have been restocking the Portal post-Christmas, and even if you are lucky enough to find one, it's going to be a while before you get your hands on it.

PlayStation Plus' monthly free games for January 2024 — the new year — have been revealed. The month's offerings include narrative-focused period adventure title A Plague Tale: Requiem, top-down dungeon-crawling action RPG Nobody Saves the World, and third-person vampire-hunting shooterEvil West. The three titles will be available to members of PS Plus Essential, Extra, and Deluxe/ Premium plans, starting January 2. These games can be added to your PS4 and PS5 games library until February 5, after which you'll have to hold on to your PS Plus membership for continued access. If you enjoy any of these titles, you could purchase them for permanent access and continue from where you left off.

Sony Interactive Entertainment has announced the January 2024 Monthly Games lineup for PlayStation Plus Essential subscribers. All titles will be available from January 2 to February 5.

January’s titles of A Plague Tale: Requiem, Evil West and Nobody Saves the World will be available to PlayStation Plus members on Tuesday, January 2 until Monday, February 5. But when it comes to the PlayStation Portal, the weirdness isn’t just in the design, it’s at the core foundation of “Why does this thing exist?”

This is the biggest sale event of the year with discounts across a vast number of digital games and DLC for a limited time*. It's been a strong year sales-wise for Sony, as the PlayStation 5 has now reportedly sold over 50 million units as it enters its fourth year on the market.

The PlayStation Portal has been out for more than a month and remains almost impossible to find. Slightly surprising since it was largely criticized when revealed since it can't be used without a WiFi connection, nor can it stream games. Perhaps even more surprising is the scarcity of the Pulse Explore Earbuds you can use with the Portal. Costing the same as the remote player device, the earbuds are currently back in stock at GameStop.

We're a month into the PlayStation Portal's life and stock is still incredibly difficult to come by. Yes, i've spotted flashes of the $199 handheld remote player at Amazon and Best Buy over the last few days, but my daily crawls haven't come up lucky in a long time. However, there's one retailer holding strong right now. Antonline currently has PlayStation Portal stock on the shelves but there's one pricey caveat... 

While it seems the UK's physical games top 10 is pretty much nailed down through the rest of 2023, one late arrival has added a last minute splash of colour to the picture. Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora launched last week, and it's managed to secure a spot within the list of bestsellers at number five. The four games above it would be tough to beat, especially given the time of year.
