PlayStation-exclusive third-person shooter Foamstars has revealed plans for its content-rich Season 2 update. The 4v4 multiplayer game has drawn countless comparisons to the Nintendo-exclusive series Splatoon upon its unveiling, but Foamstars has been blazing its own trail since launching in early February 2024.
Foamstars devs have even responded to Splatoon comparisons, but the team behind the PlayStation exclusive is hopeful that players will find the new title to be a unique experience. While Splatoon comparisons are certainly understandable, Foamstars does tweak the formula a bit by adding in various hero shooter elements. However, the stylish multiplayer game has also managed to garner its own unique criticisms, like overly aggressive monetization. Still, plenty early in its early release window, Foamstars hopes to win over fans through consistent updates and content refreshes.
Foamstars' Season 2 update, Groovy Disco, has been revealed via a new trailer. The second season will kick off on March 8, adding new modes, seasonal events, additional missions, and a brand-new character named Coiff Guy. Season 2 already has an end date set for April 12.
How the new character Coiff Guy affects Foamstars' best competitive team compositions remains to be seen, but the legendary pro wrestler will be joining the current roster of stars via the season pass at level 31. Additionally, the character can be unlocked immediately through the purchase of the Premium Pass. Joining Coiff Guy in the Season 2 fun is the limited All Coiff Guy Party mode in which each player battles using the new Foamstar. Additionally, new ranked modes and skins are slated to be added during the second season.
For PlayStation gamers who want to check out Foamstars for themselves, the game is available as a part of PS Plus' free games until March 5. Outside of PlayStation Plus, Foamstars is available to purchase for $29.99 USD on the PlayStation Store. Due to it being an online game, a PlayStation Plus subscription is required to play.
Foamstars doesn't have long to serve as PlayStation's shiny new game as Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth is right around the corner. So far, Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth reviews have been everything fans of the series have been hoping for, but PlayStation fans still have a few days to wait before getting their hands on the epic reimagining.
A PlayStation exclusive, Square Enix and Toylogic's Foamstars is an online shooter revolving around team-based battles. The gameplay focuses on foam and the ways it can manipulate stages or take out enemies.
