Square Enix’s Creative Business Unit 3 is gearing up for the launch of Final Fantasy 16’s next paid DLC, The Rising Tide, this Spring. However, it’s also working on the PC version. A release date hasn’t been announced, but producer Naoki Yoshida revealed to Game Informer that it’s in the “final stages of optimization.”
Speaking through a translator, he said, “In terms of where we are in development currently, we’re trying to figure out the final stages of optimization right now.” Those hoping to run it should be warned, as the specifications look to be on the heavier side. “When we can release the PC version might be dependent on that – the system requirements and specifications for PC that players will need, so we’re trying to figure that out. Naturally, [the PC specifications] are looking to be somewhat high.
“In terms of when it’s going to come out or when we can announce it, I’d like to ask for more time on that.” However, the developer will announce hardware requirements ahead of time and even provide a demo to further assist PC players.
“And to do that, we’re looking to release a demo for the PC version as well. Again, we can’t really talk about too much in terms of details of when it’s going to come out – I think in a little bit more time we’ll be in a better place to announce things. But one thing’s for sure: It won’t be too distant in the future; it won’t be a year, it won’t be two years, it will probably be shorter than that, so stay tuned.”
The PC version of Final Fantasy 16 officially entered development in September 2023. It could include all of the DLC, which means a launch sometime after The Rising Tide. As for the future, a sequel or spin-off isn’t on the cards, and while the possibility of more DLC “isn’t zero,” Yoshida warns that fans shouldn’t expect more. Stay tuned for more details, and check out our review of the PS5 version here.
