Pikmin 4 Review - Side Quests

The Pikmin franchise is easily one of the more “curious” entries in the Nintendo library. The series was brought to life thanks partly to legend Shigeru Miyamoto and had two entries on the Nintendo Gamecube. It was so popular in certain circles that its main character, Captain Olimar, was put into Super Smash Bros. It eventually got a third game on the Wii U. Heck, it even got a smaller game on the Nintendo 3DS! But despite that, the franchise has never been what you would call a “blockbuster success.” That is, not until the fourth game came out on the Switch.

It was all the way back in 2015 that Nintendo’s Shigeru Miyamoto revealed that Pikmin 4 was not only in development, but close to completion, but it wasn’t until a couple of months ago that the game actually came out. Of course, Pikmin 4 turned out to be well worth in the end, and has clearly had a successful start where both critical reception and sales are concerned- but is the wait to the next mainline game in the series going to be similarly long?

Independent developer Fast Travel Games announced the release date of Vampire: The Masquerade - Justice, the Virtual Reality adventure RPG set in the World of Darkness.

Don’t be fooled by the size of Baldur’s Gate 3’s third-act map. You won’t be walking miles and miles like in the Wilderness, but every corner hides a bit of side content, whether it is in the form of some letter sitting atop a shelf, a random NPC standing in a park, or a mini-game that hides a legendary weapon. Baldur’s Gate is full of content waiting to be discovered, but it’s also so packed that most of it is really easy to miss. The $500 Meta Quest 3 is set to be officially shown off in about a month, but a lucky leaker appears to have gotten their hands on the headset ahead of launch. It’s no secret that Baldur’s Gate 3 is overflowing with content. Every corner is filled with a secret side quest that’s pretty easy to miss. After all, platinum-ing the game would take no less than 200 hours. Still, with the excitement of all the new mechanics, characters, and world, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed and start skipping content.

When it comes to open-world RPGs, I’ve come to learn that more side content doesn’t always equal a better gaming experience. A delicate balance between engaging side quests and the overarching main plot must be struck. That’s why when I heard that Baldur’s Gate 3 would be 50 hours for main-plot exclusive playthroughs and around 200 hours for the completionist, I had my reservations.

From the minute I read the words «roleplaying musical,» I wondered how well musical theater and video games would merge on the latter's home turf. After all, we've seen video games make the jump to the real-world stage a few times in history – Japan's Ace Attorney musicals and The Last Of Us: One Night Live spring to mind. However, a video game taking the form of a Broadway musical is a much rarer affair, and Stray Gods is a perfect example of what makes that adaptation so difficult. A great (if predictable) story, enhanced by some incredible musical performances, is limited by the medium chosen to host it, which creates a fun but imperfect experience.
