In a trailer posted earlier this afternoon, Pocketpair has officially announced the early access release date for their open-world survival game, Palworld, that people are calling “ Pokemon with guns.”
For fans of Pokemon , some of these Pals will be oddly familiar looking, but rather than “catch em’ all” players will need to hunt the creatures down with heavy artillery. The game also has some interesting crafting mechanics thrown in, as players can employ their newfound Pals to create a fully sustainable farm.
Some Pals breathe fire, making them a great heatsource for a furnace, while others are able to generate electricity to power all of the players' electronics. Since Pals don’t abide by the labor laws we have set in place they will work until they can’t work anymore, making them perfect factory employees.
In order to keep the workflow up and running, the Pals have to remain happy and fed, so that means with scarce food around, the Pals may just end up being in a Pal eat Pal world if the pickings are slim.
Palworld is set to release into Early Access on January 19, 2024 and though Pocketpair doesn’t have a very good reputation within the gaming industry right now, the game looks to be loads of fun; for now.

Roots Of Yggdrasil - an inkwashed, roguelikey, card-playing, turn-based citybuilder, inspired by Norse myth - shot to the top of my wishlist after I read Katharine's preview last week. And look, here it is in Early Access. Roots isn't one of your traditional, SimCity-derived town sims in which you steadily colonise a single map (at least, until you lose patience with your glittering urban creation and press the Godzilla or Hurricane button). As per the roguelike element, it's a game about being on the run.
