Gamers are being inspired by the Willy Wonka fiasco that recently happened in Scotland, recreating the barren and meme-worthy experience in their favorite titles. Animal Crossing: New Horizons and Far Cry 5 have both gotten humorous renditions of the disastrous event, which drew in customers with its misleading AI-generated advertisements. The forlorn recreation of Roald Dahl’s magical world turned out to be a threadbare experience with a lone Oompa-Loompa rationing out jellybeans to children and The Unknown (a nonexistent character made up by AI) then jumping out to scare them silly.
Earlier this week in Scotland, dozens of families were disappointed by the Willy Wonka Experience Glasgow. While the bare-bones event left a lot to be desired, the actors put on the best show possible to try to show attendees a good time, and one has become a video game star.
Willy Wonka has recently been trending for all the wrong reasons, and an recreation of the event that cast his name into disrepair captures all that's equal parts sad and funny about it. Although Willy Wonka's chocolate factory is intended to be even more wondrous than it is unsettling, a Glasgow Wonka-themed event missed out on the note about the whimsy. What was supposed to be an exciting destination for kids turned out to be a mostly empty warehouse with some amusingly pitiful attempts at decoration, and images of the affair are hard to forget.
“Hеre is the child that you left behind. Here is the kid with the curious mind. Here is the wonder we used to feel, back when the magic was real.” These are lines from “A World of Your Own,” a song performed late in Wonka, the 2023 movie starring Timothée Chalamet as a young version of Roald Dahl’s eccentric chocolatier Willy Wonka. The song keys into a frequently stated motivation for this movie’s version of the character: He wants to use his candymaking magic to create a feeling of childlike wonder in his customers, and indeed, the whole world.
The first sight of that room in Willy Wonka’s chocolate factory with the churning waterfall and a whole meadow full of candy is always pure magic, no matter the version of the story: 1971’s Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory starring Gene Wilder, 2005’s Charlie and the Chocolate Factory starring Johnny Depp, or the newly released Wonka starring Timothée Chalamet.
Wonka, out in theaters starting Dec. 15,is the latest attempt to expand the story of Roald Dahl’s famed chocolatier. Maybe the origin story of how Willy Wonka started his chocolate factory isn’t a tale anyone was clamoring for, and the casting of Timothée Chalamet makes it sound like more of a star-of-the-moment IP-friendly vehicle than an honest attempt at for-all-ages filmmaking.
We all wanted to visit the Chocolate Factory, even though some guys ended up becoming a bit weird after snagging that once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. So, maybe now’s the chance. Well, not exactly. But, at least you get to meet Willy Wonka! Zynga and Warner Bros. are teaming up for a chocolaty Words With Friends 2 x Wonka crossover.
Let me level with you: 1971’s Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory is one of my very favorite films. You know how movie people like to wax poetic about how movies are magic? Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory made me believe it. Back in 1971, Roger Ebert’s four-star review of the film compared it to The Wizard of Oz, and that’s pretty apt — both films are landmark cinematic experiences, the kind that can change your life if you come to them at the right time.

Wonka may be an origin story populated with mostly original characters (other than the wannabe chocolatier himself, played by Timothée Chalamet, and Hugh Grant's crotchety Oompa Loompa), but the movie's villains take a healthy dose of inspiration from Charlie and the Chocolate Factory author Roald Dahl's work.
Bluey's world domination continues as Microsoft has now created a truly unique Xbox Series X console themed after the beloved animated series.
Xbox has a long history of making novelty consoles, and the latest one you’ll get to enjoy is the chocolate bar Xbox Series X inspired by the upcoming Wonka movie.
Xbox just announced a new version of one of its most famous gaming peripherals, this time produced in partnership with Warner Bros. to celebrate a forthcoming movie. I’m talking about an Xbox controller made entirely out of chocolate. No, you can’t actually play games with it. Yes, you can eat it, since it’s made out of 100% chocolate. And of course, it’s wrapped in a gold wrapper — a reference to the infamous golden tickets that Charlie and company had to find in order to enter Willy Wonka’s Chocolate Factory. The film, called Wonka, is a prequel to Roald Dahl’s classic Charlie and the Chocolate Factoryandstars Timothée Chalamet as the chocolateer himself.
If you’ve ever smashed a controller in anger and instantly regretted the 50 bucks you’ve just thrown down the drain, then might have the best alternative to pricy rage issues. And you get a bit of chocolate out of it, too.
Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade is one of our funniest holiday traditions, a kitschy paean to commercialism that is the only place I can think of where you can find Goku, Sonic the Hedgehog, and the Jolly Green Giant all in the same place, cheerily introduced by Al Roker. Part of the fun is in seeing who made the cut, and who, sadly, did not. (Someday, Vegeta…)
Warner Bros. has dropped a brand new trailer for the highly-anticipated musical prequel starring Oscar nominee Timothée Chalamet as the titular chocolatier who dreams of changing the world with his inventions and chocolate.
While not entirely his baby, The Nightmare Before Christmas is forever associated with, and it’s one of the movies most think of when mentioning the veteran director.
With gaining popularity, many fans want to know if the series’ lead is related to, due to them looking so alike. Is he a close relative of the late Willy Wonka star, which would explain why they look like one another? Here’s all you need to know.
It wouldn't be Willy Wonka without the Oompa Loompas. Starring as one of the chocolatier's loyal helpers opposite Timothée Chalamet is none other than Hugh Grant, which director Paul King believes is a particularly perfect piece of casting.
Many iconic characters in cinema have had equally iconic entrances. Movie fans are sharing their favorite introductions, with Indy in Indiana Jones: Raiders of the Lost Ark taking the number one spot for many.
