16-bit-style retro-futuristic science-fiction text adventure game OMEGA 6: The Triangle Stars, formerly titled OMEGA 6: The Video Game, will launch for Switch on July 25, publisher City Connection and developer Happymeal announced.

In video game development, there is almost always an “overlord” person in the dev cycle that most other developers try to “please” with their hard work and the quality of the title itself. After all, if the company’s higher-ups are happy with a dev team and their games’ success, they’ll get asked to do more things in the future. For the Pikmin 4 team, that “overlord” was none other than Shigeru Miyamoto, who is widely credited with the creation of the franchise, even though it’s a little more complicated than that. However, despite his star power, the team wasn’t “afraid” of him or seeking his approval.

Star Fox is one of Nintendo’s most iconic franchises, but Dylan Cuthbert, who served as a programmer on the original title (and in total was a lead developer on four of the series’ games), believes that “some of the more recent titles” missed out important elements that made the original game what it was.

Bugs may suck but apparently robo-bugs are even worse.  Not only do they overrun the galaxy but the logical solution would be robo-spiders, and nobody wants that.  Instead, and with great relief, the feline pilots of the Whisker Squadron have it covered, flying through infested worlds to blast apart every buggy metal critter The Swarm can throw at them.  Which, as it turns out, is quite a lot.  Starting from the outskirts and flying straight to the heart of The Swarm’s hold on its planets, the Whisker Squadron is ready to exterminate the invaders with every laser, missile, and electro-bolt at its disposal.

The Last of Us clone has been removed from the Nintendo eShop after Sony issued a copyright claim. 

The Last Hope: Dead Zone Survival — the The Last of Us rip-off that turned up on the Nintendo eShop last month — has been removed from sale.

Steam Stealth Fest is now live and will run until July 31, and if I could only recommend one game among the many sneaky discounts, it would be the BioShock-inspired FPS roguelike made by the studio which was founded by one of the co-founders of BioShock developer Irrational Games. 

The developers behind Race The Sun's minimalist gliding are now taking those high speeds to space in Whisker Squadron: Survivor, a neon-drenched homage to Star Fox. There are feline pilots, low-poly levels, and barrel-rolling in bullet hell heaven. Check, check, and check. Hopefully, the gorgeous animation from the trailer (below) shows up in Whisker Squadron: Survivor’s early access launch on August 21st.
