Last December’s Rebel Moon Part One: A Child of Firewas a paint-by-numbers space opera filled in with Zack Snyder’s maximalist colors. Pitched as “Seven Samurai but make it Star Wars” (literally, to Lucasfilm), the finished product was at best a violent B-movie mashup and at worst an expensive Asylum-esque mockbuster. Not a great movie, but a little promising? Its most glaring omission: an ending. After two hours of hero Kora (Sofia Boutella) wrangling a crew to defend a farming planet from Imperium forces, the showdown didn’t actually go down; Snyder held on to the payoff for Part Two: The Scargiver.

As usual, too, this Christmas is jam-packed full of great new releases on streaming, meaning that there will be plenty to keep you occupied after stuffing yourself with turkey. Among the highlights are a festive Doctor Who special to kick off Ncuti Gatwa's season as the Time Lord as well as Zack Snyder's hugely-anticipated new sci-fi adventure, Rebel Moon Part One. 

Zack Snyder's Rebel Moon – Part One revolves around a woman's mission to save the peaceful farming moon of Veldt that she calls home from a brutal enemy; as we learn in the film's opening scenes, the cruel and powerful Motherworld intends to bleed Veldt dry for its resources, leaving its subjugated people to starve. 

Rebel Moon's Netflix release has been brought forward by a few hours, meaning it'll be available to watch a day earlier – for US audiences, at least.

We’re just shy of a month away from the streaming debut of Rebel Moon, the epic space opera from Zach Snyder born from the ashes of a failed Star Wars pitch. The first part of the two-part feature, subtitled A Child of Fire, premieres in December and stars Sofia Boutella (Atomic Blonde) as a former soldier of a ruthless empire wreaking havoc across the galaxy who rallies an army of warriors to fight against her former masters.

In the new issue of Total Film, which hits shelves next week, legendary director Zack Snyder reveals that his upcoming movie, Rebel Moon, is like a mash-up of the classic Western movie The Magnificent Seven and the beloved World War II film The Dirty Dozen. "I said it was like a cross between The Dirty Dozen and The Magnificent Seven set in space,” the director says. 

Universal's 2017 reboot of The Mummy, starring Tom Cruise, is sitting at no. 2 on the Netflix Daily Top 10.

Zack Snyder's upcoming sci-fi epic Rebel Moon will be expanding out from the screen and onto the comics page. The director just announced a new tie-in comic, Rebel Moon: House of the Bloodaxe, which will be published by Titan in 2024.
