It was, by all accounts, a strange 2023 for Xbox. Its games were all over the board, and the company itself spent most of the year embroiled in the process of getting Activision Blizzard into the figurative catcher’s mitt.

In 2023, there was a pretty consistent flow of amazing new video game releases that launched over the course of the year, including many high-quality titles for the Xbox Series X and its slimmer counterpart, the Series S. From the hit indie title to the Xbox exclusive, there has been no shortage of virtual experiences to keep gamers occupied. While there are numerous good games covering every genre, these ten titles are some of the best for the Xbox consoles this year.

As we eagerly anticipate IGN’s Best Game of 2023 announcement, we as the Podcast Unlocked panel thought we’d tell you what we think is the best Xbox game of this year. After all, we talk about Xbox every single week, we use our Xbox’s constantly, and we’re fully immersed in the Xbox ecosystem. And so our group gathered, discussed, and debated. We’ll get to the winner in a bit, but first, here are the five games we settled on as nominees, listed in alphabetical order.

We're seeing swathes of Black Friday deals hitting the shelves today, as Amazon launches its official sales and other retailers race to price match. However, Walmart has a trick up its sleeve with its latest Xbox Series X deals - you can grab two free games and score yourself a $10 discount on the console itself. That's an offer we would expect to see on the big day itself - certainly not a week out. 

The best Xbox deal of Black Friday is here. Walmart has released a deal for the Xbox Series X Diablo 4 Bundle that includes both Diablo 4 and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 for only $489.00. You're essentially getting two of the biggest games this year free with the purchase of an Xbox Series X.

It was bound to happen eventually, but Microsoft’s approach to the Xbox ecosystem forced our hand a little bit. The Polygon Essentials lists for Xbox One and Xbox Series X (and Xbox Series S) consoles will now be brought together into one master list for the entire platform.
